Sierra Nevada Oatmeal Stout

The 4th and final entry in Sierra Nevada‘s impending Beer Camp Box Set 2012 release – Oatmeal Stout.  Also known as Beer Camp #45 Snowed In Stout.

This big oatmeal stout is midnight black in color-with a big, roast, mocha-like aroma.  It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish.  Perfect as an after dinner treat.

Mikkeller Uses Black Truffles in The Forager

Mikkeller’s newest brewing ingredient?  Black Truffles.  The forthcoming stout The Forager uses the delicacy.  The truffle is actually the fruiting part of an underground mushroom (the apple/orange/berry “edible” part).  Black truffles aka “Perigord” Truffle is so named for the region of France where it is found.  Hogs are typically used to sniff out the underground delicacy.  The flavor is earthy, slightly pungent, and very unique.  One pound of black truffle retails for around $800 dollars.

Black Truffles aren’t the only rare ingredient Mikkeller has brewed with.  Their Beer Geek Brunch series of beers uses some of the most rare coffee in the world – Kopi Luwak. AKA weasel poop coffee.

Ska Brewing will be releasing four seasonal stouts starting this fall.  According to Jonathan Shikes of Denver Westword, each seasonal will be just that – seasonal.  As in – you won’t see the beer coming out ridiculously far away from the actual season.  Each will stout be packaged in black cans.

First in the lineup: Autumnal Mole Stout, brewed with cocoa nibs, spices, and three different chile peppers.  (September) The follow ups in planning are peppermint stout, and potentially another aged in wine.  All very tentative of course.  Click on for the full breakdown.  [Denver Westward]

Heavy Seas Crossbones This Fall

Amidst a few beers that Heavy Seas   As long as the brewery can keep up, a new oyster stout will join the lineup this fall.  The beer is Crossbones.  Bones is described as “dry in style and dark in color from 6 types of malt, balanced with 3 kinds of hops.”

This dry style of stout is so named as it pairs very well with oysters.  Made with six malts three hops.
