Stone To Bottle Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers

Stone Brewing Co will soon promote Smoked Porter with Chipotle Peppers for the first time ever.  The beer has been draft only, “from time to time” offering.

In December of 1996, we first released cult favorite Stone Smoked Porter, our second beer to ever “go public,” following Stone Pale Ale, which debuted five months earlier. Fast forward one decade shortly after we’d moved into our new brewery on Citracado Pkwy in Escondido. In May of 2006, Stone Smoked Porter became the first Stone beer to get a “modification treatment,” reborn as Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chipotle Peppers. It was a thing of spicy glory, with the just-right smoky heat of the roasted jalapeiio peppers combining beautifully with the beer’s peat-smoked malt and roasty character. The mix of spiciness and the beer’s natural chocolaty overtones further complimented the symphony of flavor. (Ever try a spicy artisanal chocolate? You should; they can be quite incredible!) The beer quickly became one of Stone co-founder Greg Koch’s personal favorite. Even so, it’s still only ever been a limited “from-time-to-time” draft beer, and has never been bottled. Until now. Will we ever bottle it again? That’s for you to decide!

Style: Porter (w/ chipotle peppers)
Availability: Draft, 12 oz bottles
Arrival: TBA (Bottles)

5.9% ABV

Left Hand Smokejumper Returns After 4 Years

Left Hand Brewing Company’s Smokejumper is back on shelves after 4 years of slacking off.   Jumper is a smoked imperial porter, featuring barley malt smoked by Left Hand’s brewers.  The beer was once a home brew recipe that head brewery Ro Guenzel spent time perfecting.  Lots of different wood combinations were used until the right flavors fell into place.  Smoking the malt (not the way you’re thinking) took around 10 hours a day for 12 days.

What’s in a name? Smokejumper is a tribute to the firefighters of the National Smokejumper Association.  These brave souls literally jump out of planes into forest fires in order to preserve nature and wildlife.  Left Hand has held special events to raise money for the association.   Smokejumper won a 2008 GABF gold medal.

Style: Imperial Porter (Smoked)
Availability: 22 oz bombers,  Draft

8.8% ABV

Magic Hat Humdinger Burnpile Smoked Porter

Magic Hat Humdinger Burnpile PorterMagic Hat Brewing Company expands the Humdinger Series with Burnpile Smoked Porter.

A Humdinger is a very special breed of Magic Hat. Sometimes in 750ml bottles, sometimes only on tap at the Artifactory, Humdingers appear when our brewers want them to appear. Beers like Braggot, Thumbsucker and Chaotic Chemistry are all of the Humdinger species. They’re of a single batch and are very limited. But it’s worth the suspense if you can get some on your tongue.

Style: Smoked Porter

Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

7.5 ABV

First release in the series was just released – Over The Pils.  Like smoke beers? Here’s more.

Victory Plans 2nd Barrel Aged Beer “Otto In Oak”

Victory Otto In OakWhen Victory Brewing said they were done with Dark Intrigue, it was rumored they would be barrel aging other offerings.  Here’s a pretty obvious clue – Otto.  The brewery released Otto last year – a smoked Belgian style dubbel.  As it looks now, the brewery has intentions of barrel aging (or is already barrel aging) Otto for release in the future.

The spirit of St. Otto of Bamberg inspired us to create a smoky, Belgian-style dubbel ale featuring the beechwood kilned malts of his home.  As we feasted on the deep, exotic flavors within our creation, the German bischop’s siren song once again tempted us.  The whispers of St. Otto’s ghost, combined with our enjoyment of that ale, lured us to go a step further and age our Otto Ale in once- used bourbon barrels.  What has emerged certainly tastes heaven-sent to us!

Style: Dubbel (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

8.1% ABV (or higher)

note: The above is tentative.  Subject to change at whim of the brewer, the beer, or the barrel.

Sam Adams Dark Depths, Cinder Bock Arrive

The newest additions to the Sam Adams Small Batch lineup are now arriving – Dark Depths and Cinder Bock.

Cinder Bock

Cinder is billed as a “rauchbock” or smoke bock.

Unusual and playful this half-breed brew begins with a rush of smoky, almost savory, aromas and flavors.  The distinctive campfire smokiness of a rauchbier lingers and beings to reveal the rich and velvety malt smoothness of a double bock with a notes of toffee and caramel.  This roguish brew transforms from its bold start to a hearty and satisfying finish.

Style: Dopplebock (smoked)
Hops: Hallertau Mittlefruh
Malts: Two Row Harrington, Metcafe, Copeland Pale, Caramel 60, Smoked Malt
Availability: 22oz bottles (One time brew, as of 3/12)

9.4% ABV

Dark Depths

Depths is a IPA or a hoppy porter ( Need some clarification) brewed with a lager yeast for an interesting mesh of styles.

Across the cold and brackish waters of the Baltic, the English Porter was transferred, from a mild ale to a dark and complex lager that confounds definition.  Immersed in dark, roasted malts and a bold citrus hop character, these big and contrasting flavors are brought together with the smoothness of a lager for a brew that’s bold, mysterious, and full of flavor. Batch #1

Style: Hoppy Porter? IPA (ish)Hops: Saaz, Zeus, Ahtanum, Simcoe
Malts: Two Row Harrington, Metcalfe, Copeland Pale, Carafa I, Caramel 60, Munich
Yeast: Lager
Availability: 22oz bottles.  One time brew (As of 3/12)

7.6% ABV

Other additions to potentially released soon:  Verloren, and Norse Legend
