A Pumpkin Shandy?

Burlington, Vermont’s Traveler Beer Company focuses on one thing- pushing the envelope on a style that’s on fire right now – shandy.  Much like the many craft brewers pushing old world styles into new territories, Traveler is changing the game when lemonade meets craft beer.

The young company touts three different shandys currently – The Curious Traveler (w/ Lemon & Lime), The Tenacious Traveler (w/ Ginger & Honey), and the Time Traveler (w/ Strawberry). This fall, we will meet the first (perhaps) pumpkin shandy – Jack-o Traveler. A beer with lemon peel and pumpkin. We can’t think of another like it.

Style: Shandy (w/ Lemon Peel, Pumpkin)
Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: TBA

Mike’s Hard to Dabble in Beer

Mike’s Hard Lemonade Co. has entered into the beer and cider categories with Mike’s Authentic Shandy and Mike’s Hard Smashed Apple Cider. The first of the two, Mike’s Authentic Shandy, is a mix of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and golden lager.

“Making a stirring debut in the world of beer, Mike’s Authentic Shandy starts with real Mike’s Hard Lemonade then adds crisp golden lager to make the world’s most refreshing shandy, a perfectly blended, sessionable beverage experience. Rather than adding lemon flavoring to beer, Mike’s mixes in its very own Hard Lemonade to guarantee a taste that holds true to the original shandy blend served in pubs and bars around the world.”

The demand for Summer Shandy was so big this year, it was was released earlier than normal – on Leap Day, February 29. Also, look out for Canoe Paddler Kolsch coming next year.

Leinenkugel’s Lemon Berry Shandy Arrives Late Summer

Leinenkugel Lemon Berry Shandy

Leinenkugel’s will be adding to it’s shandy portfolio late summer.  Lemon Berry Shandy is slated to be released in September according to the brewery.

Lemon Berry is much like Summer Shandy- as it’s weiss beer blended with blackberry, raspberry, and lemon juice.  Shandy sales are strong, especially for Leinie’s.  Summer Shandy is only sold for 5 months out of the year, but account for a whopping 1/3 of the brewery’s revenue. This year Lenie’s even released the beer a full month earlier – on leap day.

Harp Shandy Officially Launches (In 2 Places)

Another appears in 2012.  The blend of lager and lemonade is gaining in popularity, especially as summer creeps in.  The brewery mixed Harp and lemonade to create this offering.  Here’s the kicker.  It officially launched this week in a mere 2 markets.  Atlanta, and coastal Rhode Island.  (No joke.)

Born in the pub and brewed for summer, HARP Lemon Shandy is inspired by how the Irish always squeeze the most out of summer.

In Ireland, summer is fleeting, so the Irish savor every moment.  During the summer months, they call for a HARP® Lemon Shandy Aroma — Bouquet of fresh citrus, laced with notes of candied lemon zest Flavor: A perfect balance of sweet and sourness, as one would expect from lemonade, preps the palate for bright lemon and citrus followed by a subdued malt character and pleasant bitter hop finish…like the authentic pub mix of lager and lemonade!
