Bottles For Cigar City Cucumber Saison

Cigar City Brewing’s Cucumber Saison might have a bottle home in the future. The beer has previously only been available on draft. (Ed. Note: Such a great hot weather beer. Tastes like fresh cucumber.) Summer anyone?

The humble gherkin. Usually we encounter this unassuming green fruit pickled or sliced and flung atop a salad. But the cucumber has so much more to offer us. It is a remarkably refreshing gourd with the power to cool a dry tongue and when just two sliced wheels are placed atop the eyes of a lounging lass in a stock photo ad for a spa the mystical cucumber has the magical ability to justify obscene spa service fees. Truly an amazing botanical gift to the world! We chose to employ the cucumber in a low gravity Saison to create a refreshing seasonal ale redolent with notes of honey, tropical fruit, lemon bitterness and of course cucumber. Brewed as a survival tool for the Florida Summer this cucumber creation features Citra and Sorachi Ace hops. So put some cucumber wheels on your eyes, lean back, relax and enjoy. Ahhhhhh.

New Holland Four Witches Ships In April

New Holland Brewing will ship Four Witches in April. Witches is a spicy black saison.

As we kick off our Summer seasonal, Golden Cap saison, we’re excited to roll out a single-batch seasonal, “Four Witches” black saison. It’s an opportunity to explore flavor within a remarkably interpretive style. Saisons are intriguing beers as they have traditional roots, yet are a delicious forum for variation and development.

The Four Witches art, illustrated by Kyle Bice, develops on Golden Cap’s theme, with a nod to Wizard of Oz, as L. Frank Baum wrote the book while summering in Holland, MI. White and dark roasted wheat provide deceptively delicious body, and a playful reference to Oz’s contrast between good and wicked witches. Caramel rye and barley continue the story, along with a unique yeast character and mild spicing.

Green Flash Wine Aging Saison Diego

Green Flash Brewing filled 2 zinfandel barrels and 4 syrah barrels today with Saison Diego. Diego is an unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, brewed with Seville orange peels, Chinese ginger & grains of paradise. The barrel aged edition is called Little Freak, a draft only offering. The brewery will blend the barrels together after the aging for added complexity. Arrival according to the brewery – 12-18 months.

Goose Island Scarlett. This Belgian inspired ale debuted in June, 2011. This saison ale is aged in wine barrels with brett yeast. Another round of this beer will appear this year.

Brewed with the Saison and farmhouse ales of Belgium in mind, we added fresh Raspberries and Brettanomyces to a wine barrel and aged the Saison base for 9 months.

Style: Saison (Barrel Aged), w/ raspberries.
