Goose Island Sofie Paradisi

Goose Island’s (Chicago, IL) specialty series includes Sofie, a farmhouse ale aged in wine barrels with orange peel. A new spin on Sofie is now available, Sofie Paradisi, with a fruit change- grapefruit.

The change in fruit offers a brighter citrus nose and a distinctly tart finish along with the slight bittersweet characteristics common to grapefruit.

Nebraska Brewing Launches Wine Barrel “Cowboys” This Month

Nebraska Brewing Company (Papillion, NE) is adding to beers to their Inception Series this month. What was meant to be just one beer is now to series entries. In the end, the barrels you age the beer in have the final say. The base beer is a saison, brewed with rose hips, hibiscus, and cherry juice, then aged in a chardonnay barrel. Indians, the other entry, got a little funky in the barrel. Cowboys didn’t, prompting the two releases. Poking fun at the perception that Nebraska is still like the wild west, they dubbed these two Cowboys & Indians.

Style: Saison (w/ Rose Hips, Hibiscus, Cherry Juice, Wine Barrel Aged. Chardonnay)

Nebraska Brewing Company (Papillion, NE) is adding to beers to their Inception Series this month. Ironically, there was only meant to be one beer. However the barrels they were aging in didn’t think the same way.  The base beer is a saison, brewed with rose hips, hibiscus, and cherry juice, then aged in a chardonnay barrel. The brewery tells us this one got a little funky. Poking fun at the perception that Nebraska is still like the wild west, they dubbed these two Cowboys & Indians.

Odell Celebrates A Hop Loving Rare Butterfly

Odell Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) will introduce Celastrina Saison into their Cellar Series this month. Celastrina gets its name from a  rare butterfly that lives on wild hops along the Front Range of Colorado. This saison is brewed in honor of a partnership with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program. The butterfly is considered one of Colorado’s rarest species.

Celastrina Saison is a crisp French-style Saison with hints of spice derived only from the hops used. Subtle phenols are complimented by the earthy hops and a dry finish.

Swamp Head Saison Du Swamp with a Funky Twist

Swamp Head Brewery’s (Gainesville, FL) Saison du Swamp is among the brewery’s most well known releases. As Swamp Head gears up for a 2013 release, you might be surprised to see a version with a funky twist. The infamous, funky, “Brett” yeast.

Our coveted saison starts off with a traditional Saison yeast, giving it aromas of pepper and white fruits and a lingering finish with a hint of floral hops. 
To weave some funk into this already tangled tapestry of flavors, we decided to introduce Brettanomyces Bruxellensis.   
This wild yeast strain know at “brett” has thrown a pleasant earthy barnyard funk. You will also find a refreshingly dry finish with a soft residual sweetness left behind by the orange blossom honey in the funky and new version of an old Swamp Head Classic.
