Terrapin Pumpkinfest 2013 Ships

Terrapin Pumpkinfest 2013

Terrapin Beer Company’s (Athens, GA) fall offering Pumpkinfest has shipped. Fest is a fusion of an oktoberfest meets pumpkin beer.A whirlpool of spices are used to create Pumpkinfest, including ginger, allspice, and ground clove. (Starting to sound like pumpkin pie?) The spices are heated, but not boiled. Boiling the spices raises the potential for unwanted flavors to enter into the brew. The finishing touch is the 1 lb of pumpkin used per 31 gallons of this brew.

Style: Pumpkin Beer
Hops: Vanguard, Hallertau, Hersbrucker
Malts: Munich, Vienna, Munich II, Caramunich II, Melanoidin

Weyerbacher Makes 3 Major Pumpkin Releases in July

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Just as I was writing the other two articles on pumpkin beers already hitting shelves, I thought about this- Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin is now available too. Just waiting on football and an actual pumpkin to carve. Even though it is due out in August, it has already been spotted on shelves in the northeast.

This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is the mother of all pumpkin ales. It is heartier, spicier, and more “caramelly” and “pumpkiny” than its faint brethren! We have added lots of pumpkin along with cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of cardamom and clove giving this beer a spicy, full-bodied flavor. This truly is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale

Style: Pumpkin Beer
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Julyish- November, Seasonal.

8% ABV

Cigar City Barrel Ages Pumpkin Favorite

If you read far, far back in Beer Street Journal’s tweets (to Barrel Aged Hunahpu release weekend) you will see a few mentions of the above beer. Charlie Meers (formerly of the brewery) gave us a taste of a new breed of pumpkin beer out of Tampa- Good Gourd Almighty.  The seasonal pumpkin release aged in rum. I’m going out on a limb and saying – if this release is anything like the test batches, be ready for a mouthgasm.

This high-gravity gob of gourd-y goodness incorporates pumpkin in the mashing process and then gets wicked with the spices of Ceylon cinnamon, Jamaican allspice, Zanzabar cloves and nutmeg.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Cloves, Cinnamon, Allspice. Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

A Pumpkin Shandy?

Burlington, Vermont’s Traveler Beer Company focuses on one thing- pushing the envelope on a style that’s on fire right now – shandy.  Much like the many craft brewers pushing old world styles into new territories, Traveler is changing the game when lemonade meets craft beer.

The young company touts three different shandys currently – The Curious Traveler (w/ Lemon & Lime), The Tenacious Traveler (w/ Ginger & Honey), and the Time Traveler (w/ Strawberry). This fall, we will meet the first (perhaps) pumpkin shandy – Jack-o Traveler. A beer with lemon peel and pumpkin. We can’t think of another like it.

Style: Shandy (w/ Lemon Peel, Pumpkin)
Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: TBA

4.4% ABV
