Avondale Vanillaphant Among First Bottles

Avondale Brewing (Birmingham, AL) has announced that they will be releasing bottles in the very near future. Among them – Vanillaphant Porter Ale.

The Vanillaphant is a superb porter ale with vanilla, a beer which is surprisingly light bodied for its robust flavor. It resembles the chocolate and roasted nut flavors that you would expect in a porter but with a special vanilla twist at the end.We use the world’s finest hand-selected vanilla beans from the bourbon islands of Madagascar in our recipe. The malty and vanilla sweetness are perfectly balanced with hoppy bitterness. Wrap your trunk around a glass of this ale!

DC Brau Cans Penn Quarter Porter

Tack on another can from DC Brau (Washington D.C.). The brewery is now shipping their flagship porter in 12 oz cans. Penn Quarter was the first 22oz bomber release, and it’s popularity has grown exponentially since. As the brewery puts it – a semi-regular release.

Porter in a can? Looks like the perfect shower beer on a cold day! Cigar City adds yet another to their growing canned offerings with their JosÃ© MartÃ American Porter.

“This is a heavily hopped high gravity porter featuring the hopping levels of an India Pale Ale with the rich and roasty malt profile of a robust porter. Heavy hop rates, while uncommon in today’s porters were not unknown historically and recipes from the British porter producers of the 1800’s evidence hopping rates far in excess of what is common for the style today.”

Cigar City Kalevipoeg Meets Bourbon Barrels

It’s back, and better than ever! Cigar City’s Kaleviopoeg is set to return standing at the gates of hell. Aged in bourbon. Ready to go down fighting. Kaleviopeog translates to Kalev’s son and refers to an epic poem from Estonia about a giant that helped form the lands and battled giants from other neighboring countries. Baltic Porters hail from Estonia and other countries in the Baltic region of Europe. We’ll be waiting patiently for the launch date as it hangs out in bourbon barrels for awhile. Look for Kalevipoeg at the Gates of Hell this year.
