SweetWater Take Two Pils recipe retired

SweetWater Take Two Pilsa seasonal release that debuted in 2014, is being retired by the Atlanta, Georgia based brewery.

Atlanta’s largest brewery brought Take Two Pils to the lineup ahead of the Georgia heat in March of 2014. The pilsner was a bit hoppier than your average beer in the same style, pleasing much of their hop addicted fan base. Pils was later added to the can lineup.

Take Two Pils is a step into an alternate reality for SweetWater, a head-first dive down the rabbit hole into the Wonderland world of lagers. The adventurous golden blonde German style pilsner is brewed with a mad hatter’s dose of spicy floral hops. It’s beautifully Bohemian in body, earthy in soul and it’s moving low. Go ask Alice, I think she’ll know. Call us in the morning!

SweetWater Take Two Pils for the time being, will not return. The current fall seasonal is SweetWater Hash Brown.

Style: Pilsner
Hops: Stryian Golding, Saaz, Mt. Hood
Malts: Pilsner, Munich, Carapils

Founders PC Pils will join the brewery’s seasonal lineup this fall. Lighter beers are in demand.

Instead of the widely used noble hops found in so many pilsners, Founder PC Pils uses American varieties, including Chinook, Centennial, and Cascade. PC Pilsner was recently made available on tap at the brewery.

For the first time since All Day IPA, the Founders will release a new 15 pack can format, for an estimated retail price of $17.99. (About $1.19 per can.)

Pleasantly crisp, perfectly clean and profoundly crushable, PC pills is our take on the classic Pilsner style. While Noble hops have been the preferred choice of Pilsner brewers around the world, we went with some of our favorite American varieties. Piney Chinook, pleasantly citrus Cascade and punchy Centennial make this an easy drinker with floral hop characteristics. Pretty cool If you ask us.

Founders PC Pils joins the Grand Rapids, Michigan based brewery’s lineup in 12 ounce, 12 ounce cans and draft, starting in mid-September.

Style: Pilsner
Hops: Chinook, Centennial, Cascade

Availability: 12oz Cans, 12oz Bottles, Draft. September-October.
Debut: Mid-September, 2016

5.5% ABV, 45 IBUs

Arrogant Brewing Who You Callin’ Wussie is available nationwide starting today. If you don’t know Arrogant Brewing, think Stone…

Stone Brewing, and now the wing of their brewery “Arrogant,” has railed against “industrialized fizzy yellow beer” for years. Get ready for a string of quotes. “They do it cheaply. We do it right. Choose vapidity, or choose righteousness…but whatever you do, choose wisely,” said Arrogant Bastard with the expectation that, ultimately, it’s up to you to figure it out for yourself.’

Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner cans hit Atlanta

Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner are now available in cans for the first time. The brewery’s hometown of Athens, Georgia has seen the first distribution, with Atlanta not far behind. This is Creature’s third year-round offering.

It took time to grow and extra capital to increase fermentation capacity in order to release their already year-round draft pilsner. Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner has been available from the brewery’s inception two-years ago, only on draft.

“For this label, we took inspiration from the classic design of European Pilsners, which are often a more traditional style with colors including white, gold blue, silver, red and green,” said Creature Comforts Co-Founder and CEO, Chris Herron.

Creature Comforts Bibo Pilsner is brewed with Czech Saaz, Sterling, and Moteuka hops. The Athens, Georgia market will see Bibo cans the week of May 7th, corresponding with the Athens Criterium bike race. Creature Comforts is a sponsor for third year in a row.

As of June 10th, can shipments of this beer are available in the Atlanta market as well.

Style: Pilsner

Release (Cans): May, 2016

Update: Creature Comforts tells Beer Street Journal that the Bibo Cans in Atlanta will be extremely limited in the Atlanta area after this shipment. The brewery is still focusing on the Athens market for the time being. Automatic Pale Ale cans are next up in production as well…

Other Half Grits & Greens, another Creature Comforts collab

For those of you keeping track of Creature Comforts, or all things collaboration for that matter, here’s one more for your radar. Other Half Grits & Greens.

Firestone Walker & Russian River finally collaborate

Firestone Walker has teamed up with Russian River to create a new draft offering – STiVO.

As the name suggests, STiVO is a mashup of pilsners they both produce – Firestone Walker Pivo and Russian River STS.

This release is 10 years in the making, born out of mutual respect for each other’s breweries. Brewmaster Matt Brynildson regularly advised Russian River’s Vinnie and Natalie Ciluruzo as they were building their brewery. Brynildson conversely called upon the Ciluruzos when Firestone Walker built their barrelhouse.  The great friendship was born out of

This beer has 10 years in the making,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “Vinnie and I respect each other immensely as brewers, but more important, we’re good friends.”

For years, fans have been calling for a Firestone Walker/Russian River collaboration. It all came down to finally making something that really just fit at the right time. What might take fans by surprise is that the final collaboration is not an over the top hoppy beer (like you slammed together Pliny the Elder and Double Jack).

Neither brewery started out brewing pilsners, but have come to love the style overtime.

STiVO is a blend of both breweries water and malt philosophies that compliment this light style, with a collaborative approach to hopping. The two breweries basically split the hops down the middle, using Pivo’s German Saphir hops, and STS’s Alsatian Aramis hops. The end result is a new age Pilsner.

STiVO will debut at the Firestone Walker Invitational on June 4th. Draft will be making its way around the U.S. In Firestone Walker’s markets shortly after.
