Abita Mardi Gras Bock for Fat Tuesday
Our choice for Fat Tuesday is one of the Mardi Gras beers, Abita Mardi Gras Bock. The spring seasonal is actually one of the first of the brewery’s seasonal releases.
The maibock, or “spring bock” is brewed with German Perle hops, and pale, pilsner and caramel malt. Honestly, a great beer for a long night of drinking, or pairing with a long night of eating.
In our case, we ate an entire King Cake looking for the little baby. What we didn’t know is the baby wasn’t put in the cake, because it is a choking hazard. It was taped to the box. They don’t call it Fat Tuesday for nothing.
Abita Mardi Gras Bock is available in 12 ounce bottles and draft from January through March.
Style: Maibock
Hops: Perle
Malts: Pale, Pilsner, Caramel

Sin City Maibock Hits Taps
Sin City Maibock, the brewery’s first ever of the style, debuts this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sin City Maibock joins the brewery’s line of high alcohol seasonals.
“I’ve noticed that nowadays when people order seasonal beers, they want that extra oomph! Our Maibock is like an amber lager on steroids,” said Sin City’s Master Brewer Rich Johnson. “It is strong, but not hoppy at all. So guests will enjoy a very smooth, malty and balanced beer that packs a punch.”
Sin City Maibock is a draft only offering. On tap around Las Vegas through June, 2015.

Sierra Nevada’s Yonder Bock with Cigar City
Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp is stepping up their Beer Camp Series. Coming this summer, Sierra Nevada will release an epic Beer Camp Across America Mix Pack featuring collaborations with breweries across America.
Sierra Nevada Yonder Bock is a can collaboration with Cigar City Brewing.
Brewed in collaboration with Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, FL, Yonder Bock is a Latin-inspired twist on a traditional Maibock. Cigar City finds inspiration in the Cuban roots of their hometown, which is a long way from our hometown, which is a long way from our home base in Chico, but our friends down yonder in Florida sure can brew a great beer. Yonder Bock blends a silky malt body with bright, fruity hop aromas of guava, mango and passion fruit from the use of Calypso, Azacca, and experimental 366 hops as a nod to Cigar City’s tropical locale.
Yonder Bock is one of twelve offerings coming this July in Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across America Mixed Pack.
Style: Maibock
Hops: Magnum, Azacca, Calypso, Experimental varieties
Malts: Vienna, Munich, Pilsner, Honey
Yeast: Lager
Availability: 12oz Can, Draft. Beer Camp 12-pack
