New Belgium Pluot Joins Lips Bottles

Coming in the second quarter this year is Pluot to New Belgium’s Lips of Faith series. The beer is brewed with the juice of a pluot – an apricot/plum hybrid.

Cross pollinate your tastebuds with Belgian imagination and you’ll be sipping this ale while visions of pluots dance in your head. Pluots? A hybrid of apricots and plums that impart a subtle sweetness. Ferment that with a wild Belgian yeast strain and you have a fruity yet spicy nature with a body reminiscent of red wine. Delicious.

New Belgium’s TransAtlantique Kriek Returns

New Belgium announced last year that they will release a new batch of their jet-setting beer TransAtlantique Kriek in 2013. This tart cherry beer started in Belgium at Boon Brewery hanging out in barrels with Frank Boon, renowned pioneer of authentic gueuze and lambic style beer revival. Then, the beer was shipped to New Belgium’s headquarters where it meets a golden ale and becomes a deliciously puckering concoction with a slightly sweet finish. This will be New Belgium’s third collaboration with Boon.

“Working with Frank Boon is the ultimate partnership as we literally cross oceans to connect our passions for sour beer.”
Style: Kriek (w/Cherries)
Availability: 22 oz bottles
Arrival: February, 2013

New Belgium Ships Cascara Quad with “Coffee Cherries”

Cascara Quad is one of two Lips of Faith offerings New Belgium launched here in early 2013. The quad uses dates and coffee cherries (the fruit of the coffee bean). Look for this and the collab with Dieu Du Ciel!, on shelves.

Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries.Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Dates, Coffee Cherries)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: January, 2013

11% ABV

New Belgium Releases Dieu Du Ciel! Collab

The first Lips of Faith releases in 2013 are now arriving. Heavenly Feijoa Tripel, a collaboration with Montreal’s Dieu du Ciel! is ready to kick off your new year. Heavenly is brewed with Coffee cherries, dates, feijoa and hibiscus.

Heavenly Feijoa Tripel combines Dieu du Ciel!’s love of hibiscus flowers with New Belgium’s passion for strange and worldly fruit. Feijoa, also known as pineapple guava, has a sweet, aromatic flavor, which makes the aroma of Heavenly Feijoa Tripel luscious and tropical. The beer has Belgian yeast and Nelson Sauvin hops, combining to make a sweet fruit taste, mild spicy tones and a sharp bite. Hibiscus adds a cranberry tartness and an ambrosial quality to the color.

Style: Tripel (w/ FeijoaHibiscus, Coffee Cherries)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: January, 2013

New Belgium Cascara Quad Takes Aim At Lips of Faith

New Belgium Cascara Quad

Does a quadrupel ale with coffee, dates and cherries catch your attention? New Belgium Cascara Quad takes aim at the 2013 Lips Of Faith lineup. Interesting ingredients include the dried husk from coffee beans (cascara) used to make tea that is then blended into the beer.

Local roasters Novo Coffee turned us onto Central America’s Cascara, the fruit or husk that surrounds coffee beans. When dried, it can be made into a tea with hints of cherry and tobacco. Blend that into a quad fermented with gorgeous malts and date sugar for a crazy complex beer to warm winter nights.

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Cascara, Cherries, Dates)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Last Release: 2013

11% ABV
