New Belgium Pumpkick Arrives
New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) PUMPKICK, has arrived.
The newbie resembles a recent Lips of Faith release — Kick, a collaboration with Elysian Brewing. Kick was a slightly sour pumpkin beer brewed with cranberries, aged in oak. No oak aging or souring in PUMPKICK, but you can look forward to pumpkin juice, cranberries, and more. The flavor is quite complex, and the beer very easy drinking.
What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. PUMPKICK is brewed with plenty of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but its the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your tastebuds sailing.

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) plays around with their seasonal releases every couple of years. It keeps the brewers creative, and the New Belgium drinkers happy. The above, PUMPKICK, has a lot in common with Lips of Faith release – Kick, a collaboration with Elysian Brewing.

Maui Brewing Collaborates with Lost Abbey
Meet Lemongrass Saison, Maui Brewing’s collaboration with Lost Abbey using 150 lbs of 100% local Maui raised lemongrass. Around 500 barrels were produced and all of Maui’s distribution area should be seeing it in cans and maybe even on draft. According to Maui, the beer pairs well with “chilling outdoors with friends,” which of course is the best pairing of all.

Blue Moon Tongue Thai-Ed
Tongue Thai-Ed is an Blue Moon experimental release to be seen at 2012’s Great American Beer Fest. No doubt a wheat based beer brewed with lemongrass and basil. No wide release currently planned.

Big Shoulders Brewing Crosstown Wheat
Bridgeport’s Summer Squeeze
The name is catchy enough. Bridgeport Brewing is adding “Summer Squeeze” to their seasonal lineup. The beer features Yuzu, a fruit that looks like an yellow orange originating in China. The fruit grows on a small thorny tree. Flavor of the Yuzu is tart, with some resemblances to Mandarin orange. Yuzu is used in a lot of dishes where lemon would have been present. Lemongrass, the second ingredient featured in this upcoming release is native to the Philippines. Lemongrass is very citrusy. There’s a reason Bridgeport calls Squeeze a “Bright Ale.”
