Lupulin powder heavy 21st Amendment Tasty IPA debuts in September

21st Amendment Tasty IPA debuts nationwide in September; a collaboration with a local homebrewer.

Mike “Tasty” McDole, an award winning homebrewer partnered with 21st Amendment on this “tasty” release. The 6.8% alcohol by volume India pale ale features Citra and Mosaic lupulin powder, along with Eukanot hops. This commercial recipe was spawned from McDole’s own homebrew test batches.

If you’ve seen the movie American Beauty, substitute the girl on the cover for McDole, hops for rose petals, and you have the can art. Incidentally, the design was drawn by Mark McDole, Tasty’s son.

“If you like hops, and you love IPA, you’ll definitely enjoy this beer… even in spite of the naked guy swimming in hops on the front of the can. In all seriousness, this beer is delicious. The lupulin powder is made from the “heart of the hop,” where the hop resins and oils reside, giving this beer bright, fresh flavors and aromas of tropical stone fruits and pine, with a hint of spiciness.” – Shaun O’Sullivan, co-founder, and Brewmaster

“Juicy” Stone Tangerine Express IPA is a success, gets canned

Stone Tangerine Express IPA joined the brewery’s lineup in February. The “juicy” IPA has been quite successful, prompting the addition of cans.

There is no doubt that Stone Brewing loves their India pale ales. The most popular style in craft beer always seems to have room for another by the California based brewery.

Stone Tangerine Express IPA features whole tangerines and pineapples, added to a hoppy base IPA. No, fruited IPAs are NOT dead. Stone doesn’t stop short of taking a shot a some of those overly juicy IPAs out there. In the brewery’s own words – this one is for adults.

Imagine the tropical haze of a lazy afternoon-into-evening. Your official duties of the day have been to maybe take a hike to a secluded waterfall, perhaps grill something, definitely chill with plenty of sand between your toes…and crack a phenomenal beer to complete the experience. Check, check, check again and…pff…check.

Welcome to our vacation transportation express.

This ain’t no just-add-juice approach. This one is for adults. We use bountiful whole tangerine puree, which brings pithy, cap bitterness with the citrus flavor. In addition to the complexities of the tangerine — the likes of which you can only get by using the whole fruit — we judiciously employ just a hint of whole pineapple for a backbone. (you’d likely not even pick it out of the mix if we didn’t tell you it was there). We’re not looking for a sweet concoction to appease the “I want my beer to taste like fruit juice crowd. This is Stone. We like our IPAs to taste like IPAs. Big, bold, and not for kids.

Stone Tangerine Express IPA is already a 22-ounce bottle release. 12-ounce cans hit shelves in California in August, going national by January 2018.

Style: IPA (w/ Tangerine, Pineapple.)
Hops: Citra, Centennial, Sterling, Azacca, Mosaic
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: February 2017
Can Debut: August 2017

“Blissfully inefficient” Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA debuts in November

Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA will round out the Delaware brewery’s 2017 lineup later this year.

The makers of famed 60, 90 and 120 Minute IPA released coconutty hit Lupu-Luau this summer. This winter is looking hoppy as well. Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum first appeared as a brewpub exclusive back in 2016. The “blissfully inefficient IPA” is only hopped after the boil with Warrior, Simcoe, and Calypso hops, and then gets extra tropical thanks to Azacca, Mosaic, and Citra hops. This IPA is all about hop aromas.

As long as the recipe stays the same when it comes time to bottle this release, expect more of the same.

Truthfully hoppy without being deceptively bitter.

Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA will be available in 12-ounce bottles and draft. Currently on the brewery’s calendar for November 2017.

Style: IPA
Hops: Azacca, Mosaic, Citra, Warrior, Simcoe, Calypso

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: November, 2017

The Hop Concept Mosaic and Eureka IPA is back for only the second time

The Hop Concept Mosaic and Eureka IPA is hitting shelves again this month – only the second this beer has appeared.

The hoppy wing of Port Brewing/Lost Abbey says heavyweights Eureka and the Mosaic hops meet in this India pale ale. Together, the two bring everything from pine to tropical fruits into each sip.

Mosaic, probably one of the most aptly named hops fuses an array of tropical fruits, citrus, and berry with mild herbal, earthy, and pine characteristics. Heady Eureka hops emphasize heavy pine, underlined by mild floral notes and rounded out with dank aromas.

The Hop Concept head brewer Steve Churchill loves Mosaic hops, and this year’s allotment is some of the best they had. Pairing them with Eureka is a big flavor bonus.

Look for The Hop Concept Mosaic and Eureka IPA in 22-ounce bottles starting the first week of August.

Style: IPA
Hops: Eureka, Mosaic
Availability: 22oz Bottles
Latest Return: August, 2017

Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo debuts in cans

Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo hit shelves as we started 2017. The trop-spin on their tried and true IPA has been very successful, prompting the brewery to add on cans to the lineup.

According to Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman, “Innovation is part of our DNA.” There is a lot of truth in that statement. Sierra Nevada is one of a handful of American breweries responsible for putting hoppy beer on the map, thanks to Torpedo IPA. The style has dominated sales in the craft beer segment for years now.

RELATED: Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange Pale Ale

Recognizing the shift in tastes among American drinkers, the brewery has released a new take on their classic – Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo.

Implementing the brewery’s proprietary Hop Torpedo (for which the beer was named), the brewery has made some juicy changes to the dry-hopped aspects of this IPA. The result is a juicy, tropical twist on a classic. Unlike Sidecar Orange Pale Ale that uses fruit, Tropical Torpedo relies entirely on the dry hop for the fruity flavor.

What you get. All the tropical hoppy flavor that is so en vogue right now. That hop torpedo spits out some magic. Torpedo is already an American icon, and one thing’s for sure, this drop of trop isn’t far behind. Expect passion fruit and mango aromas and flavor, with a great bitter finish. Buy more than a 6 pack. You’ll want it.

“The rush of hop flavor and lush aromas of mango, papaya, and passionfruit awaken your senses with our most adventurous IPA yet.” – Brian Grossman, Second Generation Sierra Nevada brewer

Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo is available in 12-ounce bottles, cans, and draft.

Style: IPA
Hops: Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra, El Dorado, Comet
Malts: 2 Row Pale, Munich, Honey

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
