Le Bilboquet Microbrasserie was founded in 1990 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. It’s a brewpub with an Irish flair. Previously on available locally, Le Bilboquet recently expanded around Canada and now the United States. There are 2 sides to their brewing, ones brewed Continue Reading →
Atlanta gets it’s own beer garden Wednesday! Der Biergarten opens its doors at 300 Lucky Street downtown Atlanta featuring a German flair that was lacking in the downtown scene. Expect authentic German beer and food.
Beer gardens originated in Bavaria somewhere during the 19th century. During this time, dark lagers were in fashion. King Ludwig I of Bavaria issued a degree that these dark lager beers had to be brewed in the cold months. (Lagering requires colder temperatures than top fermenting ales do.) As the weather turned warmer, these lagers still required colder temperature to maintain freshness and flavor.
Pyramid has “officially” arrived in Georgia. I use “quotation” fingers because the launch title Haywire Hefe has been on tap at Taco Mac restaurants for a few weeks. Pyramid hails from Kalama, Washington.
.Hoppin Frog, despite being a very small brewery in Akron, Ohio continues to work full time to reach more states. They have barely been in Atlanta for a month and more and more offerings keep popping up. The most recent Continue Reading →
Red Brick Brewing’s “Summer Ale” is being reborn as “Dog Days Ale.”
Red Brick Describes: Light and bright copper color. Very elegant foam, creamy aspect and regular, fading away delicately. Intense nose of fruit, exotic pineapple, orange zest. Rich body in the mouth, fully textured, very long finish with flavors of peach and lemon. The acidity is well balanced giving freshness.
Le Bilboquet Microbrasserie was founded in 1990 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. It’s a brewpub with an Irish flair. Previously on available locally, Le Bilboquet recently expanded around Canada and now the United States. There are 2 sides to their brewing, ones brewed and available just at the brewpub, and ones that are available for distribution.
All 4 beers are available in 500 ml bottles, capped. No specified draft offerings in the U.S. All the above beers are interesting & complex. Great beers for those looking for something different. I dote on the L’Archange & La Corriveau.
Refrigeration as we know it was still many years away. As a result, breweries dug beer cellars along the Isar River in order to keep the beer cold. As an added step, trees were planted over thehe cellars to keep the cellar a few degrees cooler.
In natural progression the beer cellar became more than a storage space. These dark lagers were served from the cellar. Tables and chairs were set up under the trees above the beer cellars and thus the beer garden was born. King Ludwig I (aka Crazy King Ludwig) issued a decree that food cannot be served by the beer garden, causing the patrons to bring their own food. While Ludwig’s decree is no longer in force, it is still a common practice for patrons of beer gardens in Germany to bring in their own food.
Atlanta gets it’s own beer garden Wednesday! Der Biergarten opens its doors at 300 Lucky Street downtown Atlanta featuring a German flair that was lacking in the downtown scene. Expect authentic German beer and food (Brats and wursts, strudels, pretzels etc.) Der Biergarten is is 7,000 square feet with flat panel tvs. More importantly a big German beer list:
Pyramid has “officially” arrived in Georgia. I use “quotation” fingers because the launch title Haywire Hefe has been on tap at Taco Mac restaurants for a few weeks. Pyramid hails from Kalama, Washington.
Here is the short short version of Pyramid’s history. Pyramid Brewing actually got it’s start under a different name – Hart Brewing Co in 1984. History was made by the brewer when it introduced the first year round wheat beer since the dark times aka Prohibition. New beers were introduced into the lineup each year, and in 1989 5 investors from Seattle jumped into the mix. In 1993 Hefeweizen debuts followed by Apricot Ale in 1994. In that same year Pyramid became the fourth largest craft brewer in the U.S. Pyramid expanded in 1997 by building an alehouse in Berkeley, CA. Eventually Sacramento, Walnut Creek, and Portland also become homes to Pyramid.
Haywire Hefe has seen a few weeks on tap handles here in Atlanta, and now the bottles are on shelves. Ingredients:

.Hoppin Frog, despite being a very small brewery in Akron, Ohio continues to work full time to reach more states. They have barely been in Atlanta for a month and more and more offerings keep popping up. The most recent – Wild Frog Wheat Ale.
Wild Frog is a traditional German style unfiltered wheat beer. No fruit or spices were used in the brew process. Wild Frog uses a special yeast from the oldest brewery in the world -Weihenstephan. (Weihenstephan has been brewing since 1040 A.D.)
Availability – Year round in 22oz bottles, and Draft (although, to my knowledge no Hoppin Frog beers have hit taps in Atlanta yet…)
Taste Expectations – Some orange/ fruit arising from the special yeast. Wheat nose, and flavor with some light malts beginning to end. Great for warm weather.
