Founders Tank Bender, a barrel-aged anniversary beer debuts in October

Founders Tank Bender

Founders Tank Bender debuts in October, celebrating the brewery crossing the 20-year mark.

A barrel-aged eisbock has been chosen to mark the double decade milestone, a first for the brewery. The style is created by freezing water off the beer, leaving behind a much stronger beer. Apparently, the brewery bent one of their fermentation tanks in the process, thanks to collapsing ice.

A liberal addition of Munich malt highlights the toasty and dark fruit notes while a stay in bourbon barrels tames those intense flavors.

Those looking to get their hands on Founders Tank Bender will have to make a trip to the 20th-anniversary party on October 14th. Founders is only offering this special release at the brewery to the fans that been active since the beginning, “…to illustrate the importance of our home base”.

750-milliliter bottles will be available on October 14th, both individually, and in special gift sets with glassware.

Style: Eisbock (Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles. Brewery only.
Debut: 10/14/17

Worlds Strongest Beer Is Now 65% ABV

The race to the strongest beer in the world is a bit like the race to the moon. Scottish brewery Brewdog has held the title previously – with Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32%)  and Sink The Bismarck! (41%).  Brewdog even outdid the 41% entry with The End Of History, a 55% blonde ale shoved into a dead, stuffed squirrel.

It wasn’t long before they were then overtaken by Schorschbräu Schorschbock (57% ABV). The newest to the top? Brewmeister Armageddon, a Scottish brewery that clocks in at 65% AB.  Modeled after the eisbock style. Eisbock (ice bock) is a German style created by flash

freezing the beer. The first to freeze is removed leaving the liquid more potent. In this instance, the process is repeated until the desired ABV is reached.

The world’s strongest beer at 65%. Ingredients include crystal malt, wheat, flaked oats and of course 100% Scottish spring water. We then freeze ferment the beer to bring up the ABV. Consume this like a fine whisky. Despite being 65%, the beer has a lot of flavour – malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast still in the beer. Be careful though, smelling it is probably enough to put you over the limit!

These bottles are available online, ERP $64.00 U.S.

Style: Eisbock (STRONG ALE!)
Availability: 300 ml bottles (10 U.S. oz)

65% ABV

CASK ALERT: Schneider Aventinus Eisbock

Brick Store Pub’s Anniversary is looming.  Continuing the tradition of a special tapping each day the pub brings you Schneider Aventinus Eisbock Wooden Cask.  This beer is an eisbock, created by freezing off a portion of water and extracting it from the beer.   What is left behind is a higher concentration of beer that is more pronounced in flavor and alcohol.

Schneider Weizen-Eisbock is brewed by Private Weissbierbrauerei G. Schneider & Sohn, or Schneider for short.  Its a damn good beer with high marks from all the beer drinkers, raters, geeks, etc.

Taste Expecations – Dark fruits, raisins, touch of clove.  This eisbock has a nice malt backbone also.

This beer taps from a wooden cask, at 5 pm today (6/10)
