New Holland Launches Brandy Barrel Charkoota Rye

New Holland Brewing is now shipping Brandy Barrel Aged Charkoota Rye. Charkoota is a smoked doppelbock lager. For this edition, the flying pig spent time resting in brandy barrels.  The result? smokey beer with a boozy, fruity complexity. About regular Charkoota:

Charkoota Rye is a Smoked Rye Dopplebock. An homage to all things Pig, including Porkapalooza and the age-old tradition of Charcuterie, Charkoota Rye’s malty backbone is derived from a blend of rye and four other malts, including malted barley smoked over cherry wood.

Its smoke-forward body is balanced with tones of deep mollasses and caramel, with a crisp, clean lager finish. Delightful by itself, Charkoota is best served with its succulent counterpart, Pork.

Style: Doppelbock (Smoked, Barrel Aged, Brandy)
Availability: 22 oz bombers, Draft
Released: Late September, 2012

7.75% ABV

Shmaltz Releases Another Round Of Barrel Aged Blockhead

Shmaltz Brewing announced today the 3rd release of  Coney Island Barrel-Aged Human Blockhead. This bock has been aged over five months in Buffalo Trace bourbon.  Imperial American Bock has aged over five months in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.  This beer was the 7th release in Shmaltz’s Limited Engagement Barrel Aged Series. A portion of the proceeds of Coney Island Craft Lagers® help Coney Island USA, a 501(c)(3) Arts Non-Profit, fulfill its mission to defend the honor of lost forms of American popular culture in Brooklyn’s historic Coney Island neighborhood.

While the original Human Blockhead® was conceived as a tough-as-nails strong lager, Barrel-Aged Human Blockhead® is the evolution of a true professional; bearing the signature richness of Munich and Vienna malt, but emerging from the barrel softened and silky, with hints of maple, caramel, and vanilla.

Style: Doppelbock (Barrel Aged)

Full Sail Celebrates 25 Years

Full Sail Pale Doppelbock

Full Sail Brewing Company (Hood River, OR) celebrates the big 2-5 this year. The brewery was founded in 1987, producing just 287 barrels of beer. (8,897 gallons.) Today Full Sail surpasses 100,000 barrels annually. They’ve come along way since Golden Ale was released. 25 years is marked with a “pale doppelbock” which sounds as confusing as it does tasty.

So here we are 25 years later. Very humbled, Grateful, and amazed that we got here in one piece. Still a mix of beer geeks and board heads. Still independent. Still trying to find that perfect balance between art and commerce, work and play, inspiration and perspiration. Thanks for supporting us for all these years. And next time you’re in Hood River, stop by for a beer.

Style: Doppelbock
Availability: 22oz bombers
Arrival: TBA
