Brooklyn Brewery & GrowNYC Collab: Greenmarket Wheat [PICS]

Brooklyn Brewery (New York) has teamed up with non-profit GrowNYC to create Greenmarket Wheat. The beer is a collaboration between local farmers, malteds and brewers in an attempt to capture the flavor of local New York agriculture. This week the beer launched at Riverpark Restaurant is known not only for serving locally sourced food, but also maintains an on-site farm..

New York Governor Cuomo set the stage for this collaboration, thanks to 2012 Brewery License legislation aimed at maintaining the growth of craft breweries in the state. Greenmarket Wheat Beer uses raw wheat from North Country Farm in Watertown, Pilsner Barley Malt from Hadley, Mass, and Wildflower Honey from Tremblay Apiaries in Chemung County, NY. Much like Black Ops, the beer is then bottled flat and allowed to carbonate in the bottle. The beer will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays at Greenmarket, Riverpark Restaurant, and potentially Whole Foods in New York.

Style: Wheat Beer (w/ Honey)
Availability: 750 ml bottles

More on Cigar City & Widmer Bros Gentlemen’s Club

Tomorrow, June 13, will be the official launch party of the Cigar City and Widmer Brothers collaboration Gentlemen’s Club. Inspired by the Old Fashioned cocktail recipe and the Gentlemen’s Clubs where the cocktail was first served over 100 years ago, Gentlemen’s Club is a twist on an Old Ale Recipe. This brew features cherries and oranges, Alchemy, Sorachi Ace and Pacifica hops, and hand-selected specialty malts to try and emulate the flavors of the Old Fashioned cocktail. Then, the beer was aged on three different woods: bourbon barrels, rye whiskey barrels and new oak spirals, creating three unique versions of the beer.

Looking for a bottle? The first will be released during a special party at Widmer Brothers Pub during Portland Beer Week on June 13th starting at 5pm. After that, special releases from both breweries will also be available on draft. Bottles of Gentlemen’s Club will be available at the Widmer Brothers store starting at 5pm June 13, 2013.

Hoppin Frog’s Euro Collabs Continue with Frog Hops “To”

Amager Frog Hops To Amager

Fred Karm, founder of Hoppin’ Frog in Akron, Ohio, spent time brewing in Europe.  His trip yielded a few cross the pond collaborations, including Frog’s Hop From Amager, U.S. Meets Europe S.I.P.A., and Natasha Rocks America.  This imperial wheat ale was brewed at Amager Bryghus in Denmark. Imported into the U.S. by Shelton Brothers.

One day in May 2012, Amager Bryghus had a visit from one of America’s most charismatic brewers: Fred Korn from the brewery Hoppin ‘Frog in Akron, Ohio. Fred was on tour in Europe and came by to guest brew with us. The result of this pleasant and rewarding day of great American company, is the bottle you hold. “Frog Hops To Amager is a somewhat rare type, namely an Imperial Wheat Stout brewed with eight different malts, two of which are wheat And then it would not do for us if it was not hopped strongly so we have given the beer a solid game of Tomahawk and Chinook. You will find an intense and aromatic hopping beer, which is perhaps a little softer and not so heavy as other Imperial Stouty Hope you can enjoy the results of this transatlantic cooperation!

Stone’s Newest Collab: R&R Coconut IPA

Stone Brewing Co has teamed up with Rip Current Brewing to collaborate with on home brewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan’s winning Coconut IPA recipe. The collaboration will arrive later this year.

This collaboration beer is a celebration of the homebrewing spirit and an example of counter-intuitive thoughts coalescing beautifully into something exceptional. Case in point is the seamless marrying of toasted coconut and a hop bill brimming with tropical fruit notes. Longtime homebrewers Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan teamed up to enter this beer in our annual American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned brewing competition and, though it was the first beer they’d ever brewed together, they sailed past the competition like a tropical ocean breeze on a pleasure cruise bound for India. After winning, the duo reached out to their friend, highly decorated homebrewer and 2011 AHA Nmkasi Award winner Paul Sangster of the newly opened Rip Current Brewing Company, to assist in dialing in the recipe. Together with Gangster’s skilled partner Guy Shobe and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Masterson and Reschan present fellow craft beer enthusiasts with a most delicious and original style of IPA. Open, enjoy, rest, relax and repeat as needed.

“On the nose, you get lots of tropical fruit–mango, passion fruit, pineapple–with some sweet orange and stone fruit from the hops along with toasty coconut sweetness.” Ryan Reschan /I Winning Homebrewer 1 love the tropical spin that Robert and Ryan added to an already great IPA recipe.” Mitch Steele II Brewmaster, Stone Brewing Co. “The true lest of a beer like this is the balance between the fruity hop and the coconut flavors and, with this one, you feel like you’re drinking a tropical drink on the beach.”
