Back Forty Brewing (Gadsden, AL) will soon join the can revolution with initial offerings of Naked Pig IPA and Truck Stop Honey in 12oz cans.

As with others offering craft beer in cans, the usual reasons apply. Benefits of aluminum vs. glass, the fact cans are allowed more places, etc.

The initial offerings will be available starting in March. Later in the spring, look for Freckle Belly IPA and Fence Post Session Ale. to join the initial offerings.

The Back Forty Brewing can lineup will be available in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) just made drinking while flying a little tastier.

The brewery’s flagship amber ale, Fat Tire is now available on all Southwest Airlines and AirTran flights. What’s even better that this news? Southwest tells Beer Street Journal that the cans will retail for just $5. (Credit cards only, folks.)

AirTran, which is based in Atlanta, doesn’t even carry local craft breweries yet. Perhaps that will change once SweetWater’s cans hit shelves in the Spring.

Ed Note. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer on a plane. (Booze, yes.) Why? Not paying airline prices for the selection offered. This changes things.

San Tan Brewing To Conquer Southwest

Cans, cans, cans. That’s the news these days. SweetWater Brewing is about to can, all can Upslope is expanding their distribution, West Sixth has a newbie coming too.

In the southwest (where warm weather never really goes away) SanTan Brewing (Chandler, AZ) is taking aim at the southwest, and soon the United States. Southern California will be drinking SanTan in March, followed by Texas in April. Up next? New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada. This marks the first time that the brewery has distributed outside of Arizona.

I don’t know which is the bigger win, really. The larger availability of craft options in the southwest, or more craft beer in cans to drink in more places. Perhaps both in this case. San Tan Brewing’s core lineup includes Devil’s Ale, HefeWeizen Wheat, Sunspot Golden Ale, & more. Oh, and don’t forget about Sex Panther.

SanTan Brewing was founded in 2007.
