Wild Heaven Emergency Drinking Beer Debuts Today

Wild Heaven Craft Beers (Avondale Estates, GA) will launch their first canned offerings with the help of Toucan Mobile Canning this year. First up – Wild Heaven Emergency Drinking Beer.

The beer style is reminiscent of a great pilsner. Something easy drinking, crisp and refreshing, a bit like Let The Be Light, but as versatile as possible.

Emergency Drinking Beer will be the lowest alcohol by volume beer by Wild Heaven to date. Created in collaboration with Paul Calvert of Victory Sandwich Bar and Paper Plane (Atlanta Magazine’s 2013 Bartender of the Year).

The drink of necessity. Real brewed. All purpose blend. Ready to drink. Do not refill. Do not reuse…

Emergency Drinking Beer is perfect for picking out your next beer. A beer for walking to the mailbox, or waiting to use the ATM. A beer for when the zombies are tearing down your door, and you’re out of bullets. A beer for when you really, really need it.

Wild Heaven Emergency Drinking Beer will debut this Thursday, April 9th at Victory Sandwich Bar in Decatur, Georgia. Expect cans by summer.

Terrapin RecreationAle 16oz Cans Arrive this Month

Terrapin RecreationAle 16oz cans are on the out of the Athens, Georgia brewery. Tallboy cans of the session ale were filled this week.

Terrapin RecreationAle was the very first can to join the brewery’s lineup back in 2013.  Its success opened the door for Hi-5 IPA, and ultimately, Terrapin ordering their own canning line. (Two Roads Brewing had been contract canning previously.)

16oz “tallboy” cans roll out this month. The the hoppy session ale is 4.7% ABV.

Independence RedBud Berliner Weisse Cans, April 11th

Independence RedBud launches this weekend as the brewery’s new summer seasonal. The beer is a berliner weisse, a sour/tart wheat ale.

Inspired by classically tart and refreshing Berliner Weisse flavor profile, RedBud is light and lemony with a crisp acidity. It is brewed with a lactic culture to create the classic sour-citrusy lemon flavor and finished with high carbonation.

Independence RedBud is available in 12 ounce cans starting April 11th.

Second Self Beer Launches Cans

Second Self Brewing (Atlanta, GA) will release their first package offering, cans, this week. The brewery opened in fall of 2014, and has been draft only until now.

Using Toucan Mobile Canning, Second Self is packaging Red Hop Rye, and Thai Wheat, both year round offerings. A quick review of the brewery descriptions of each:

  • Thai Wheat (5.1% ABV, 18 IBU) — a spicy American wheat beer brewed with fresh lemongrass and ginger.Suggested Pairings: fish, chicken, pork loin, grilled vegetables, sushi, and Asian cuisine. 
  • Red Hop Rye (7.3% ABV, 69 IBU) — a spicy rye mixed with citrusy hops, balanced by a malty backbone from American caramel & honey malts. This is a great example of an American hybrid of beer: a Red Rye IPA.

Second Self Thai Wheat will be available starting April 6th. Second Self Red Hop Rye cans arrive the following week, April 14th.

Anchor IPA, the Brewery’s Third Can

Anchor IPA is now available in cans. This release marks the third canned offering in the brewery’s 119 years of operation. The brewery first released Anchor IPA in February of 2014.

“We are thrilled to finally bring Anchor fans one of their favorite core beers, Anchor IPA, in cans,” said Mark Carpenter, Brewmaster at Anchor Brewing. When we first released Anchor IPA the popularity of the beer took off quickly, so it only made sense to also offer consumers a convenient way to enjoy this tasty beer…”

Anchor Lager was up first in cans, joined by Brotherhood Steam Beer. Anchor IPA cans are now available nationwide.

This bright can is Oskar Blues Brewhouse Special Pale Ale, a collaboration with the iconic, music influenced, House of Blues.

If you know Oskar Blues, you know the brewery loves music as much as they love the outdoors. The collaboration is a pale ale, that features Falconer’s Flight and Lemondrop hops.

 A smooth, easy drinking American Pale Ale with lemon, pine, and citrus character.

The brewery tells Beer Street Journal that you can find Oskar Blues Brewhouse Special Pale Ale in cans at House of Blues locations.
