O’Connor Brewing’s new Proper Lager is simply “fantastic”

Norfolk, Virginia based O’Connor Brewing Company has released a new year-round beer into their 8 year old lineup – Proper Lager. A lighter beer that’s needed an IPA and adjunct heavy industry.

For the better part of 2018, O’Connor Brewing was perfecting the recipe, brewing process and launch of this new year-rounder. A lager is a beer you have to get right. There aren’t dark malts, barrel aging or pounds of vanilla beans or fruit to cover up any missteps in the brewing process.

Proper Lager is a helles-style lager, brewed properly according to O’Connor. Helles-style lagers are German pale lager beers (with pilsners, and Dortmund Export styles). Helles in German translates to bright, or light. Incidentally, that description is perfect for this new lager. It’s every bit a bright, crisp and clean beer, that’s impossible to put down.

Without digging deep into the thesaurus, Proper Lager is simply fantastic.

O’Connor Proper Lager is one of seven flagship beers available year-round, in Virginia, Washington D.C., and parts of North Carolina. Available in 12-ounce cans and draft.

Style: Helles Lager
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-Round.
Debut: February 2019

Saint Arnold Original Dry Cider is the brewery’s first

After years of requests for non-beer options at the brewery, the idea for Saint Arnold Original Dry Cider was born.

After many months of research, and more than 100 test batches, Saint Arnold landed on the perfect recipe for Original Dry Cider. This new release features a proprietary blend of Pacific Northwest apples, including Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, Cripps Pink, and Cameo, fermented with the brewery’s house yeast.

The finishing touch – Belgian Candi Syrup, and a bit of honey from Burleson’s Honey from Waxachachie, Texas

Saint Arnold Original Dry Cider is gluten-free and available in 12-ounce cans and draft year-round starting in March 2019.

Style: Cider (w/ Belgian Candi Syrup. Honey.)

Think Cracker Jacks with a hangover: Wild Leap Prize Inside Stout delivers

Wild Leap Prize Inside Cracker Jack Stout hits shelves, where the beer IS the prize inside.

This new imperial stout is basically the boozy beer equivalent of Cracker Jacks. The stout is brewed with peanuts, caramel, and caramel malt. Think of it like that childhood box of popcorn, but with a potential for a hangover with overindulgence.

The prize inside? It’s the beer for sure. So many of these dessert-inspired imperial stouts go overboard with the flavor semblances to their sugary inspirations. Wild Leap opted for a more subtle flavor, and in our opinion that makes a better beer. After each sip of Prize Inside, you are left with a lingering aroma of the iconic caramel popcorn, leading you ready for another sip. It’s not cloying, heavy, or overwhelming. (And pairs perfectly with real Cracker Jacks, BTW.)

Wild Leap Prize Inside is available in 12-ounce cans and draft for a limited time.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Peanuts. Caramel.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: Early February 2019
