Barrel Aged Beer In A Can? A Sour? Maybe

Craftcans.com took trip over to Brewery Vivant (Grand Rapids, MI) to chat can beer.  The whole interview is great, but this quote about upcoming beer was most interesting.  Barrel aged beer in a can? Sour beer? Might happen.

Schlafly Hefeweizen Cans In May

Schlafly Hefeweizen CansSchlafly Brewing will be bringing their Hefeweizen to cans this May.  Hefe is a year round offering by Schlafly.  According to the brewery, 4,000 cases will be initially produced.

About Hefe:

Our Hefeweizen is a light, unfiltered wheat beer, often served with a wedge of lemon. Made with thirty percent American winter wheat, Hefeweizen is balanced with sweet golden malted barley and Tettnang hops from Oregon that evoke a hint of spice. The American ale yeast is subtle, but  the grains take center stage and, when left in the unfiltered beer, gives it that classic cloudiness and additional body.

Style: Hefeweizen

West Sixth Brewing IPA Cans

Updating a previous post prior to launch, this is West Sixth Brewing’s flagship IPA.  Available year round.

Per the brewery:

Our IPA is big and hoppy, but we’ve placed a premium on making it well-balanced, as well.  Using 4 types of hops — Cascade, Columbus, Centennial, and the infamous Citra hop, we’ve been able to create a beer that’s not quite an West Coast IPA, but also not an East Coast IPA —  which is why we like it so much.

We hope you enjoy it — let us know below what you think!

  • ABV: 7%
  • Malts: 2 row, Honey, Cara, Dextrin, Flaked Barley
  • Hops: Cascade, Centennial, Columbus, Citra
  • Yeast: House Ale

Coming down the can line in 2012 you should see our Double IPA, Belgian Tripel, Belgian Quad, our Barrel Aged Triomphe and maybe a Belgian Style sour. Should be a big year, although many of these will only be available locally since we are doing some small runs.

Perhaps Brewery Vivant & some Goose Island Bourbon County, in a can for the beach?

Tampa Bay Brewing Company Starts Canning

“Anita” is the newest member of the Tampa Bay Brewing Company family.  Who is she you ask?  She is their new canning machine that the team dubbed “Anita” which is short for “I need a beer”.  On Sunday, Dave Doble, brewmaster, grabbed one of the first cans off of the new line and shot-gunned it.

Tampa Bay Brewing purchased it’s $74k canning system from a Boulder, CO company who flew in an engineer to oversee the first canning venture.  The cans will allow for more expanded sales and distribution in the area.  The first cans you will see at Tampa retailers will be their flagship Old Elephant Foot IPA for $12/4 pack.
