Maui Brewing Intros Aloha B’ak’tun To Finish Off 2012

Maui Brewing Co. introduces that last canned seasonal of 2012 – Aloha B’ak’tun.  B’ak’tun refers to the end of the 3000 year Mayan Calendar.  The beer? A Belgian style stout with chocolate, chipotle chilies, and cinnamon.

Sure.. the scientists have published essays, the philosophers poems, the naysayers flyers.. but here at the center of the Maui Brewing micro-verse, we are publishing the ultimate in doomsday aloha – this year’s last canned seasonal, Aloha B’ak’tun! The word aloha conveys both greeting and goodbye in the Hawaiian language and B’ak’tun refers to the 3000+year cycle of the Mayan Calendar which is ending. This apocalyptic Belgian-style stout is brewed with Hawaiian chocolate, locally-grown chipotle chilies and cinnamon spice. Easy-drinking and full of flavor, this beer will help you feel the aloha as you say aloha to old and aloha to new!

Style: Stout (w/ Chocolate, Chilies, Cinnamon)
Availability: 12 oz cans
Arrival: End of 2012

New SoCal Brewery To Can: Hangar 24

Hangar 24 Craft Brewery (Redlands, CA) released their first canned offerings this week. With this release, they are the first Southern California brewery to can and bottle their beer.  Initial offerings include:

Orange Wheat – Crisp, Tangy, and Refreshing. The citrus aroma, light airy mouthfeel, and tangy finish are this unfiltered beer’s trademarks. This is accomplished by adding whole locally grown oranges throughout the brewing process, which perfectly coalesce with the wheat and barley base.

Helles Lager – Traditional and Sweet. This Munich style Helles bears all its delicacies for you to enjoy with nothing to hide. Sweet candy-like malt sweetness and a hint of German noble hop flavor and aroma is what this craft lager is all about.

Both are now available year round in 12oz cans.
Ed Note: Thanks to a few concerned readers, Golden Road Brewery seems to be the first to can in SoCal. Thanks guys…

DC Brau To Can “On Wings Of Armageddon”

DC Brau Brewing Co. (Washington, DC) will be canning On The Wings of Armageddon in December. Perfect for the end of the world right?  According to Mayan and Hopi calendars the “transition from one world age to another” will happen on December 21, 2012.

At first glance, it has an orange hue in the glass with a viscus, rocky head that refuses to dissipate. Upon first sniff there are dominate aromas of citrus, white grapes and grapefruit with light bread and biscut notes. After the first sip we taste a mellow bitterness that only grows as more is consumed. Moderately carbonated, deceptively smooth, refreshingly dry and extremely heady for a beer at 9.2% ABV.

Expect these bad boys shortly after the end of days. If we are still here that is…

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: Arrived in September, 2012 in 22oz bombers, Draft
Can Arrival: TBA

9.2% ABV

Farmhouse Ale in a Can: 21st Amendment Sneak Attack Saison

21st Amendment Sneak Attack Saison

A new seasonal on the horizon for 21st Amendment Brewery (San Francisco, CA) – Sneak Attack Saison. Note the drunk Washington crossing the Delaware references in the label. The first thing that strikes me about Sneak Attack is how few saison/farmhouse ales there are on the American beer market in cans.  Brewery Vivant, Surly Brewing, and Hillard’s (Seattle, WA) immediately come to mind.

Style: Saison/Farmhouse Ale (w/ Cardamom)
Availability: 12 oz cans Arrival: TBA

6.2% ABV
