Stone Southern Charred (Barrel Aged Double Bastard) Returns

Stone Brewing Co’s Southern Charred is making a return soon. Charred is Stone’s Double Bastard (a strong ale) that spent 5 months in first use Kentucky bourbon barrels. That’s less time than the first release that was a blend of beer aged 13months, and 10 months in barrels.

The dark amber ale was brewed with a huge malt bill and a belligerent amount of hops making it a heavy, bitter beast of a beer.

Southern Charred joins the Bastard Box Set, Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard and Lukcy Basartd in recent releases.

Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged, Bourbon)
Availability: 500ml bottles. Draft. Very limited

Distribution: 2014 distro, TBA

11.2% ABV

Ed note: Updated with new barrel aging time.

Avery Spontanea Joining Barrel Aged Series

Number 24 in Avery Brewing’s Barrel Aged Series is Spontanea, an American wild ale.

Spontanea is brewed with Cabernet Sauvignon grape must and aged in Cabernet Savignon wine barrels. An interesting fact about Spontanea, is that no extra yeast was added to the beer. The yeast and bacteria naturally occurring on the grape must did all fermentation.

We gave our yeast a vacation, The critters on the skins of the grapes did all the work on this beauty! Completely spontaneous fermentation!

Avery Spontanea was bottled in October in 12oz bottles.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Grape Must. Wine Barrel Aged.)

Mother’s Squashed Chocolate Pumpkin Porter, Year 2

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude Releases November 8th

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude is a sequel to another rare barrel aged offering from Boulder, The Dude’s Bane. So named, because the barrels aging both beers were constantly in the brewery’s “Shipping Dude’s” way.

The dude strikes again! A sequel to The Dude’s Bane, Scourge of the Dude is the second release in our barrel-aged Dude Series. This barleywine ale was born on our pilot system, using a blend of caramel malts, toasted rye and a hint of smoked malt, then aged for eight months in first-use bourbon barrels. Although strong bourbon and oak characters from he barrel dominate up front, the Scourge opens up with subtle raison-like notes and a dry, tannic finish.

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude will be available in 22oz bombers, capped & waxed.

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bombers
Arrival: 11/8/14

12.5% ABV
