Odell Brewing (Ft. Collins, CO) has released The Meddler, a barrel aged Belgian style brown ale. The Meddler is actually a blend of several generations of brown ales, aged in barrels for 18 months.
“At first sniff you get a caramel crystal malt aroma with hints of tartness,” said Brent Cordle, the brewery’s barrel aging manager. “A creamy tan head appears after the pour giving way to flavors of brown sugar, oak and vanilla paired with sour black cherry and a crisp dry finish.”

A stunning 500 IBU hop bitterness brings this 16% ABV pale ale back in balance. Oak aged for 6 months in Bourbon barrels before dry hopping this monster. This ale is unblended, unfiltered, unpasterized and bottle conditioned.

The Ballast Point/Brewdog collaboration is finally going to see the light of day. Almost a year ago (November 11, 2011),folks from Ballast Point Brewing (San Diego, CA) jumped the pond to Scotland and created San Diego Scotch Ale. The group soaked raisins in Ballast Point’s Three Sheets Rum. Then they aged it in a scotch whiskey barrel.
Look for bottles to be released in the Brewdog store in September, 2012.
