Red Brick’s 20th Anniversary To Be Bottled This Month

Red Brick 20th Anniversary

Red Brick Brewing (Atlanta, GA) will be taking 20th Anniversary Imperial Stout out of the barrels this month and bottling it. This stout is the biggest beer Atlanta’s oldest brewery has ever created, and aging it in Bufflo Trace bourbon barrels (a brewery first).

Look for 20th Anniversary in Atlanta at the anniversary party in late July, and on shelves in August, 2013. Check out Beer Street Journal’s inside look at barrel filling day below. (P.S. It’s also the QR code!)

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: August, 2013

Cigar City Barrel Ages Pumpkin Favorite

If you read far, far back in Beer Street Journal’s tweets (to Barrel Aged Hunahpu release weekend) you will see a few mentions of the above beer. Charlie Meers (formerly of the brewery) gave us a taste of a new breed of pumpkin beer out of Tampa- Good Gourd Almighty.  The seasonal pumpkin release aged in rum. I’m going out on a limb and saying – if this release is anything like the test batches, be ready for a mouthgasm.

This high-gravity gob of gourd-y goodness incorporates pumpkin in the mashing process and then gets wicked with the spices of Ceylon cinnamon, Jamaican allspice, Zanzabar cloves and nutmeg.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Cloves, Cinnamon, Allspice. Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

Budweiser Gears Up For Project Twelve, Round 2

Print
Prepare for another round of Budweiser’s “Project Twelve” Series. The mega brewery lets brewers at their various location across the United States run free and create as they see fit. Joining the pack is Vanilla Bourbon Cask. Taking a page from the craft brewers handbook, Budweiser will so bring you Vanilla Bourbon Cask.  The flagship lager was aged on bourbon oak staves with vanilla beans,

Now this isn’t the first time Budweiser has created this brew. The first time was in the qualifying rounds of the O.G. Project Twelve release. It’s popularity (???) will bring it back to Project Twelve, round 2.  See the original below.

The Bruery Mash & Grind, featuring coffee and bourbon

The Bruery Mash & Grind, a barrel-aged barleywine from the California based brewer.

The English-style barleywine (more malt forward than American barleywines) is aged in bourbon barrels, with coffee from Portola Coffee Lab in Costa Mesa. I’m sure you get where the name comes from by now – Mash (beer) & Grind (coffee beans).

Mash & Grind is Mash with the addition of Portola Coffee Lab’s Lucio Delgado (Columbia) at a rate of 1 lbs. per 10 gallons. This has contributed an intense coffee aroma and some additional body, with flavors of raspberry jam, tart pineapple and maple brown sugar. Mash & Grind is certainly delicious on its own, but we deliberately sought a strong coffee aroma and flavor so you could try your own blending,

The Bruery Mash & Grind is a 750 milliliter, limited bottle offering.

Style: Barleywine (w/ Coffee. Barrel Aged, Bourbon)
Availability: 750ml bottles
Debut:

12.5% ABV

Deschutes Green Monster Touted As Tasty Mistake

I’m of the humble opinion that Deschutes Brewery (Bend, OR) makes some of the best barrel aged beer in America. Green Monster hopes to be no exception. Born from an accident that they brewery will soon elaborate on, the monster is a mistake turned tasty.

This 7% creature is aged in wine barrels that comes with the tagline – Mistakes happen, Monsters are born…. Lucky Us. Is it luck? We will soon see.

Deschutes Black Butte 25th Anniversary Reserve

To celebrate their 25h Anniversary this year, Deschutes Brewery is releasing a special edition of their yearly and flagship beer Black Butte. Black Butte XXV will have an addition of cocoa nibs, Mission figs, and Medjool dates and a 20% increase of the portion aged in bourbon barrels. As you enjoy this brew you’ll find complex notes of vanilla, tart and dried fruit, and chocolate.

Look for Black Butte XXV in 22 oz wax-dipped bottles and on draft to most of the 21 states where Deschutes beers are sold over the next few weeks, in limited quantities. While the label says best after June 10, 2014, Deschutes recommends drinking one now and cellaring another for later.

Style: Imperial Porter (w/ cocoa nibs, figs, dates, bourbon aged)
Availability: Draft, 22oz bottles
Arrival: June 27 2013

Stone Debuts 3 Different Farking Wheaton w00tsout Bottles

Today Stone Brewing introduced the bottle art for their upcoming Farking Wheaton w00tstout. This collaboration between Stone’s Greg Koch, Wil Wheaton, and Drew Curtis is an imperial stout brewed with pecans, wheat & rye, partially aged in bourbon barrels. With bottle art ready to go we’re one step closer to some serious beer-geekdom.  Look for this beer in July in every state they distribute, except Ohio due to ABV laws.
