First Look: Trim Tab Brewing, Coming in 2014

Birmingham, Alabama’s brewery scene growing. Recently, Avondale Brewing started bottling. Beer Engineers purchased a building to next to the baseball stadium. The state allows home brewing finally.  Things are looking up.

Coming soon to the city is Trim Tab Brewing. Will Crenshaw, who has brewed at such places at Atlanta’s SweetWater is heading up the operation.

The production brewery aims to be open in early 2014, with an initial 3500 barrel capacity. That’s just over 100,000 gallons of beer in their first year.

For those into the technical aspects of a brewery, the brewhouse is a 30 barrel brewhouse built by Specific Mechanical. The space, located on 5th Avenue South, has space to grow with demand. The brewery footprint has room for more fermenters when the time comes.

Trim Tab will launch with at least two offerings, an IPA dry-hopped with Pacifica, and a rye beer.  The cooler at the brewery already has about six more experiments that might hit the big time.

Look for beer to hit bars in Birmingham in early 2014.  In the meantime, keep up with the brewery on Facebook & Twitter. There you’ll find the back story to the brewery’s name…

Beer Street Journal Video: Terrapin Releases White Chocolate Moo-Hoo

Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, GA) has just shipped a very special spin on their late fall offering, Moo-Hoo. Brewmaster “Spike” and the team took their milk stout brewed with chocolate from Nashville’s Olive & Sinclair and added white chocolate to enhance the already dessert-like offering.

This is the first off a few new takes on tried and true favorites. Terrapin recently finished an expansion that allows them a little more room to experiment. White Chocolate is shipping now, and next month expect Cinnamon Roll’d Wake & Bake; and cinnamon-y twist on the oatmeal coffee stout.

Handing waxing, boxing and prepping the beer to ship is hard work as you can see above. Now shipping.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Chocolate, White Chocolate)
Availability: 22oz bombers, limited Draft

6.1% ABV
