Phoenix Ale Brewery Opening Soon

(Phoenix, AZ) — The owners of The Phoenix Ale Brewery today announce the opening of a new brewery located three miles east of downtown Phoenix at 3002 East Washington Street. Company partners Gregory Fretz and George Hancock will hold a sign-raising media event Tuesday, September 27th at 7 a.m., as their signage is hoisted onto the building’s facade, to announce that the brewery is open to the public. The event will include brewery tours and beer tastings.

The brewery, bottling facility, administrative offices and visitor center are housed in a 15,700-square-foot building on 1.1 acres of land directly adjacent to the Phoenix Metro light rail system. The company has selected Alliance Beverage Distributing Company for their statewide distribution, and the brewery’s first beer — its flagship Fretzy’s Unfiltered Ale — is currently shipping out to a variety of retail locations, including Bevmo, Total Wine & More, AJ’s, Basha’s, Tops & Sun Devil Liquors, as well as Arizona restaurants and pubs.

Fretzy’s Unfiltered Ale is also available at Chase Field, where it recently debuted at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Phoenix.

The successful launch of the new brewing company is the result of Co-Owner Greg Fretz’s long-held ambition to own a brewery.

“I was a beer sales guy for fifteen years selling other people’s beer, but I always dreamed of having my own brewery right here in Phoenix,” says Fretz. Fretzy’s Unfiltered Ale was named in honor of its founder, affectionately known in the industry as Fretzy. “It’s a lot of fun selling a beer with my own name on it, and to have a team that can produce such high-quality beer enables me to have passion and pride about it,” comments Fretz. “Fretzy’s is a malt-forward unfiltered English-style ale that is well-balanced and smooth. It’s very drinkable and refreshing.”

Fretz’s partner in the brewery is craft beer pioneer George Hancock, who founded Pyramid Breweries, one of the largest craft breweries in the country, where Fretz and Hancock first met and worked together. “George brings a wealth of expertise to the organization as its general manager,” says Fretz, “and I knew with his industry knowledge and track record, he was the person to make Phoenix Ale Brewery a success.”

The Brewery will showcase its ales to the public in a new Visitor Center. The brewery will conduct brewery tours and beer tastings, as well as selling beer “to go” in bottles, growlers (a 64oz glass container), 15.5 gallon kegs and 5.17 gallon kegs. Brewery tours will be held weekdays at 4 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm. The Brewery Shop will be open from noon to 5 pm weekdays and noon to 3 pm weekends.

The Phoenix Ale Brewery LLC, was founded in 2010 by Fretz and Hancock while brewery operations are led by Head Brewer John Donehower. The brewery specializes in traditionally-brewed, English-style ales made with the finest malted barley, hops and purified city water, which is treated onsite in their brewing facility.

“Water is an essential element in the brewing process and our brewery, in effect, re-designs the water to make it ideal for our ales and other beers,” explains Donehower. Once the brewing stage is complete, Donehower prefers to let Phoenix Ale Brewery’s beers clarify by gravity (known as “dropping bright” in brewing parlance) rather than forcing them through a filtration process. “This means the beer can be a little cloudy, but they taste better that way,” Donehower adds. This method also preserves more of the naturally occurring nutrients in the beer.

Donehower is releasing the brewery’s latest beer — Camelback IPA — Sept. 15th at an event at Papago Brewing Co., and PAB’s newest creation, Watermelon Ale, a wheat beer fermented with an extract of watermelon — will be released in October. More seasonal and year-round styles are planned for the near future.

The brewery has a current annual brewing capacity of 4,800 barrels (31 gallons per barrel), but is designed for an eventual capacity of 25,000 barrels. “Arizona needs more breweries,” comments Hancock. “There are currently about 26 breweries in the state, which may sound like a lot, but states like Washington and Oregon have two and three times as many. Four and a half million barrels of beer are consumed in the state every year, but more than 99% is brewed elsewhere. Local breweries like ours ensure that the economic benefits of brewing, particularly the jobs created, accrue to the state.”

Local breweries also provide environmental and beer freshness advantages. Beer is a heavy product, so not having to ship kegs and bottles hundreds or even thousands of miles avoids significant pollution. “Most importantly for the consumer, the beer gets to them in fresher condition,” says Donehower. “For most beers, the fresher it is, the better it tastes. Locally brewed beers have a tremendous freshness advantage.”

The Company also has plans for a small pub and restaurant in the same building to open in late 2012.

Triple Door Teams Up With Elysian

THE TRIPLE DOOR TEAMS UP WITH ELYSIAN BREWING COMPANY TO CREATE PRIVATE LABEL CRAFT BEERThe Triple Door Backstage Ale to be sold exclusively at The Triple Door and Elysian Fields available early October 2011

SEATTLE (September 13, 2011) — The Triple Door, Seattle’s world-class event venue that pairs live entertainment with award-winning food and wine, announces a partnership with Elysian Brewing  Company to create a new craft beer, entitled The Triple Door Backstage Ale. The new pale ale will be available exclusively at The Triple Door and Elysian Fields, stadium district brewpub, by October 13, 2011.

In creating the recipe for this new brew, a team of key members from both The Triple Door and Elysian Brewing Company collaborated to create a recipe that pairs with The Triple Door menu, which features the award-winning and fiercely authentic Pan-Asian dishes of Wild Ginger.

“When we initially developed the concept of a private label craft beer with the team from The Elysian Brewing Company, we were very excited about the prospect of creating our very own craft beer recipe that could perfectly suit the flavors found in our cuisine,” said Jason Lock, general manager of The Triple Door. “We take great pride in crafting our cocktail, wine and beer offerings to provide our guests a variety of options that pair well with our menu — this provides the ultimate opportunity to deliver on this goal.”

Described as a refreshing golden pale ale, this beer will stay true to Northwest craft brewing by incorporating a lively hop profile. Unique flavoring and aromatic elements will be created by an uncommon Japanese hop, Sorachi Ace, that provides citrus and tropical notes, and for an additional twist, the use of juniper provides another intriguing flavor and aromatic layer. It will retail for $5.50 a pint plus tax.

“In developing a name for our new beer, The Triple Door Backstage Ale, we wanted to come up with something that would have a fun and evocative connection to the Triple Door, said Brian McKay, operations manager at The Triple Door. “The Triple Door Backstage Ale represents the passion, energy, intrigue of our main stage, the magical quality of live performance, and the special connection between the performer and audience.”

The Triple Door

Located in downtown Seattle, across from Benaroya Hall, the Triple Door combines world-class entertainment with the award-winning food and wine of Wild Ginger. The Mainstage Theater features touring national acts and the Musicquarium lounge, named for its stunning 1,900 gallon freshwater aquarium, pairs the sounds of up-and-coming artists from around the country with one of the city’s most popular happy hours.  For more information and a schedule of upcoming events call 206-838-4333 or visit www.thetripledoor.net

Nebraska Brewing Releases Hop God

Nebraska Brewing Company Sets Release Date for Barrel Aged Hop God – World Class in Every Glass

(Papillion, NE) — Nebraska Brewing Company is set to release the 2010 bottling of one of its Reserve Series Beers, Barrel Aged Hop God. Barrel Aged Hop God is a French Oak Chardonnay Barrel Aged version of draft Hop God and through an additional 7 month process emerges as an incredibly unique blend of both intense and subtle flavors. The draft version of Hop God won Bronze in the 2010 World Beer Cup in the American-Belgo Style Ale Category.

Chardonnay character and a minor blending with draft Hop God introduce tremendous diversity into an already complex beer. This Reserve Series Beer was originally bottled in 2009 and represented Nebraska Brewing Company’s fourth entry into an elevated realm of Craft Beers that require great skill, patience, and a little luck. The first experimental bottling yielded only 45 cases while the current release will launch with 114 cases.

This version of Hop God is a fascinating, big, bold Belgian-style Tripel hopped in very high amounts to concentrate citrus, grapefruit and floral aromatics in the nose. The addition of Chardonnay barrel aging adds further dimension and oak tannins to an already wonderfully complex Ale.
Paul Kavulak, President of Nebraska Brewing Company stated: “We’ve discovered that Chardonnay barrel aging complements well made, big Belgian-style Ales beautifully.” He noted further, “We love creating Craft Beers that not only we enjoy but others seem to enjoy as well. This is one of the most difficult beers we create. “

Kim Kavulak, Vice President & General Manager of Nebraska Brewing Company adds: “The draft version of Hop God is an extremely complex beer that is entirely unique. The additional 6 months of barrel aging adds a dimension that makes this a truly remarkable beer.”

Nebraska Brewing Company has set the release date for Barrel Aged Hop God to be Saturday December 4th and will host a release party at 6PM in the brewpub on this date. Barrel Aged Hop God will be available in all markets where our beer is distributed. A complete list of Nebraska Brewing Company brands can be found on our website,www.nebraskabrewingco.com
