Budweiser Project 12 Sampler Pack (PR)

(St. Louis, MO) — Call it a friendly competition, one best argued over a bottle or pint.  Its name is “Project 12.” Twelve Anheuser-Busch brewmasters at Budweiser’s 12 geographically dispersed breweries worked together to create their own “tribute” beers to fit the Budweiser brand’s reputation for quality and consistencyThe assignment pays homage to Budweiser’s “clean and crisp” taste by using the proprietary yeast directly descended from the original Budweiser yeast culture used by Adolphus Busch in 1876 and still used by Budweiser today.

Through internal tasting and analysis, the 12 small-batch beers — each a lager using all-natural ingredients — were pared to six to take part in a summer-long, nationwide sampling effort. Consumer feedback will help Budweiser narrow the six beers to three for inclusion in a limited-edition sampler pack, available for purchase this fall.

“We asked our Budweiser brewmasters to each submit a beer idea in styles that consumers have shown interest in,” said Rob McCarthy, vice president of Budweiser. “From those 12 ideas, we narrowed it to the six best. Our brewmasters have been working in small teams this spring and early summer to perfect these six and now it’s time for consumers to let us know what they think.”

To launch the six sampler beers, private events with brewmasters are scheduled to take place in August in all 12 A-B brewery cities:  St. Louis, Mo.; Merrimack, N.H.; Baldwinsville, N.Y.; Newark, N.J.Williamsburg, Va.Cartersville, Ga.Jacksonville, Fla.Columbus, OhioHouston, TexasFort Collins, Colo.Fairfield, Calif.; and Los Angeles, Calif.

Each small batch Budweiser is distinguished by the ZIP code where the beer is brewed. Among the six beers being sampled this summer and the brewmasters behind them:

  • Budweiser Small Batch 91406 (Los Angeles):  A deep-amber lager with 6 percent ABV that uses four different types of hops. The beer is brewed by brewmaster Bryan Sullivan in Los Angeles and was developed in collaboration with Scott Ungermannin Fairfield and Dave Cohen in Houston.
  • Budweiser Small Batch 63118 (St. Louis):  A deep-gold 5 percent ABV American lager that uses the same types of hops (Hallertau and Tettnang) commonly used at the St. Louis brewery during  the 19th century.  The beer is brewed in St. Louis by brewmaster Jim Bicklein and was developed in collaboration with Katie Rippelfrom Fort Collins.

  • Budweiser Small Batch 43229 (Ohio): A light-amber lager using eight different types of hops with 6 percent ABV.  The beer is brewed in Columbus, Ohio, and was the brainchild of the brewery’s general manager, Kevin Lee and developed with assistant brewmasters Travis Burge and Tyler Hunter.
  • Budweiser Small Batch 23185 (Virginia): A light-amber all-malt bourbon cask lager aged on bourbon staves and vanilla beans and with an ABV of 5.5 percent. The beer is brewed by Daniel Westmoreland in Williamsburg and was developed in collaboration with Mike Anderson in Jacksonville and Dan Kahn in Cartersville.
  • Budweiser Small Batch 13027 (New York): A bright-golden lager brewed with six imported and domestic hops and with an ABV of 7 percent.  The beer is brewed in Baldwinsville, N.Y., by brewmaster Nick Mills in consult with general managerSteve McCormick.
  • Budweiser Small Batch 80524 (Colorado): A deep-gold, filtered wheat beer with 5.2 percent ABV using lemon peel, orange peel and coriander.  The beer is brewed by Katie Rippel in Fort Collins and was developed by Nick Mills in Baldwinsville,Otto Kuhn in Merrimack and Tiago Darocha in Newark.

“The key to this project was the common yeast — which is a very important and often under-appreciated contributor to the flavor and aroma of beer,” said Jane Killebrew-Galeski, director of brewing, quality and innovation for Anheuser-Busch. “We are proud of all these beers — the variety and the quality — but we want consumer feedback. So, we’re looking forward to what we hear when we sample this summer. Our objective is to allow our brewmasters to show some creativity, but the beers must fit the hallmarks the Budweiser brand is respected for, such as quality and consistency, and have a very crisp and clean taste.”

Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to quality and spirit of innovation are at the foundation of the company’s history and continue to be it defining characteristics.  This passion helped the company expand from a local St. Louis brewery to a leader in the industry.  Today, Budweiser’s recipe for success brings together its proud heritage and talented teams to brew, package and sell some of the most popular beers in the world.

The six sampler beers also will be sampled during “Budweiser Made in America” over Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia. The two-day music festival benefits United Way and will culminate following a summer of music parties in cities all across America in which Budweiser will invite its Facebook fans to experience talented local bands and artists and sample some of these news beers along with local food in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Nashville, Miami, Boston and New York City.

About Budweiser
Budweiser, an American-style lager, was introduced in 1876 when company founder Adolphus Busch set out to create the United States’ first truly national beer brand — brewed to be universally popular and transcend regional tastes. Each batch of Budweiser follows the same family recipe used by five generations of Busch family brewmasters.  Budweiser is a medium-bodied, flavorful, crisp and pure beer with blended layers of premium American and European hop aromas, brewed for the perfect balance of flavor and refreshment.  Budweiser is made using time-honored methods including “kraeusening” for natural carbonation and Beechwood aging, which results in unparalleled balance and character.  The brand celebrates great times and has used the phrase “Grab Some Buds” in advertising since 2010.

About Anheuser-Busch
Based in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 47.7 percent share of U.S. beer sales to retailers.  The company brews Budweiser and Bud Light, two of the world’s largest-selling beers.  Anheuser-Busch is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and has been a leading aluminum recycler for more than 30 years.  The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the leading global brewer, and continues to operate under the Anheuser-Busch name and logo.  For more information, visit www.anheuser-busch.com.

Redhook’s Ben Harris Tribute Beer Releases Friday (PR)

(Portsmouth, NH) — Redhook Brewery invites the New England community to remember and celebrate Ben Harris with a special tapping of Ben Harris Beer, a memorial beer brewed for Ben. The keg tapping celebration will be held at the Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth, N.H., located at 1 Redhook Way, on Friday, July 20, from 4:00-11:00 p.m. All proceeds from Ben Harris Beer sold during the event will benefit the Ben Harris Fund.

After the July 20 tapping, Redhook will donate $1 to the Ben Harris Fund for every pint of Ben Harris Beer sold at the Cataqua Pub. Redhook Brewery plans to make Ben Harris Beer available on draught nationally over the next several weeks and months. Starting this fall, the brewery plans to bottle Ben Harris Beer and distribute it in the New England markets of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. Additionally, Redhook plans to make the bottled beer available in Ben’s home state of Pennsylvania.

“Ben Harris was an incredible man. He was a longtime member of the Redhook family, a friend to all of us and a beer lover through and through,” said Alex Kopf, Redhook senior brewer. “We chose to brew a cream ale for Ben to represent not only the type of beer he loved, but also the man he was: a fun-loving, hard-working family man. There’s nothing we’d like more than to be enjoying this beer with Ben, and we hope that the community will join us in honoring his legacy and celebrating his life by raising a pint.”

About Ben Harris Beer
Ben Harris Beer is Redhook’s special take on the classic cream ale style, brewed in tribute to our friend and teammate, Ben Harris. This is a beer that Ben would have wanted to drink. It’s a beer brewed for those who work hard and play hard, just as Ben did. But most importantly, it’s a beer brewed for us to share as we remember and celebrate Ben’s life.

Ben liked a touch of hops in his beer, so we hopped up a classic cream ale recipe, Redhook style. Ben Harris Beer was brewed with ingredients you’d expect to find in cream ale: two-row barley, carapils for a touch of sweetness, victory malt for a touch of breadiness and a dose of corn for good measure. We hopped it up with some Sterling, Saaz, and Hallertau hops, which create a crisp, clean and refreshing beer just for Ben. Ben Harris Beer is 4.7% ABV and 19 IBU.

About Redhook
Redhook was born out of the energy and spirit of the early 80s in the heart of Seattle. While the term didn’t exist at the time, Redhook became one of America’s first “craft” breweries. From a modest start in a former transmission shop in the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard, to the current breweries in Woodinville, Wash., and Portsmouth, N.H., Redhook has become one of America’s most recognized craft breweries. While Redhook has “grown up” during the past 30 years, one thing has never changed — Redhook is still brewing great beers like ESB, IPA, Copperhook, Pilsner and seasonal brews. Most importantly, Redhook makes sure to have fun doing it. Redhook’s beers are available both on draught and in bottles around the country. For more information, visit www.redhook.com.

Widmer Brothers Announces Four Summer Beers (PR)

(PORTLAND, OR) — Looking for a great summer beer for your barbecue or after-work drink on the patio? Widmer Brothers Brewing has four beers that are perfect for the warm summer months ahead.

“It’s time to think about thirst-quenching summer brews,” said Rob Widmer, co-founder of the brewery, “and we have options to please every palate — from the new Shaddock IPA and Marionberry Hibiscus Gose to the refreshing Citra Blonde Summer Brew and longtime summer favorite Hefeweizen.”

The recently released Shaddock IPA is the fifth beer in Widmer Brothers’ Rotator IPA Series. Brewed with grapefruit peel, Shaddock IPA is a refreshing new beer that blends the sweet aroma and distinct flavor of grapefruit with the tropical notes found in Citra hops. The beer, which is a slightly modified version of the popular X-114 IPA recipe, offers slight hints of spice and significant but smooth bitterness. Shaddock IPA is available in limited quantities on draught and in six-packs and 12-packs at select retailers.

Another new release is Marionberry Hibiscus Gose, a traditional cloudy German-style wheat beer that balances tart and slightly salty flavors with a soft malt background. Widmer Brothers’ unique take uses a healthy dose of Oregon-grown Marionberries as well as dried hibiscus flowers for a tart, floral profile with clove and coriander flavors to round it out. Marionberry Hibiscus Gose is the latest limited-release in the brewery’s Series 924 and is available on draught, 22-ounce bottles, and four-packs of 12-ounce bottles.

Widmer Brothers has also just released its summer seasonal, Citra Blonde Summer Brew. Citra Blonde Summer Brew offers a subtle, refreshing hop aroma complemented by a light malt body. The Citra hops help create a balanced and flavorful beer with little bitterness. This summer seasonal is available through August on draught and in six-packs at select retailers across the country.

Finally, Hefeweizen is a summertime classic that deserves special mention. Hefeweizen is the original unfiltered American-style Hefeweizen. It is purposefully cloudy in appearance due to live yeast in suspension. Wheat and biscuit flavors provide the backbone to the refreshing beer, which is complemented by subtle citrus and faint spice notes. Serve with a lemon to accentuate the natural citrus notes found in the beer. Hefeweizen is available on draught, in 22-ounce bottles, six-packs, 12-packs, 24-packs and five liter mini-kegs across the country.

Approximately 850 cases of 750ml bottles and 20 draft barrels have been produced by Jolly Pumpkin. Saturday, July 7th will bring the introduction of Hoppy Girl, the seventh release in Twisted Pine’s Artisan Ale Project.  The new brew is an American-style double India Pale Ale double dry-hopped with loads of Cascade hops as well as Hibiscus, Jasmine and Rose buds.  Hoppy Girl is subtly sweet, sensationally bitter and stealthily strong at 8.5% ABV with 70 IBU.

Local artist Kate Medlin provided the piece featured on the label, a black and white photograph titled ‘Hush’.  Kate will be on hand throughout the afternoon on Saturday displaying her work and signing bottles for collectors.  The release party/art show will begin at noon and go until 9pm.  Hoppy Girl will be available in wax-dipped 750ml bottles and on tap at the Twisted ale house and other select locations throughout Colorado.

The following Saturday, July 14th, is Twisted Pine’s 17thanniversary celebration.  The brewery will release their newest birthday beer, Red Rye-der, to thirsty party-goers in honor of another year of exponential growth and ever-expanding creativity in brewing.  The brewers used a variety of malted grains, including copious amounts of München and rye malts, to craft a solid foundation for the beer, and then tossed in flavorful American hops by the bucketload.

The result is a delectable, dry-hopped red ale with sophisticated balance and an extra level of complexity added by the rye.  At 6.1% ABV and 60 IBU, the 17th anniversary ale makes for a perfect, full-flavored heat quencher.  Red Rye-der will be available in draft form and 22oz bottles throughout Twisted Pine’s distribution network.

Based in Boulder, Colorado Twisted Pine Brewing Company has been handcrafting beer since 1995.  They are the brewers of such favorites as “Hoppy Boy IPA,” “Raspberry Wheat Ale” and “Billy’s Chilies.”  The Ale House is a very popular local hangout and boasts 17 taps, 5 rotating.  Twisted Pine is active with local charitable organizations and a strong believer in sustainable business practices.   You can find more information atwww.twistedpinebrewing.com.
