Foothills Brewing Announces Wholesale Distributor Partnerships (PR)

Distribution changes to address growth and increasing demand for Foothills brands

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Barely a year after relocating the bulk of its brewing operations, Foothills Brewing (foothillsbrewing.com) is once again expanding, signing wholesale distributor agreements that will dramatically increase the reach and availability of Foothills brands. Several Foothills beers will now be available in 6-packs and 22 oz. bottles at major grocery store chains and bottle shops across the state of North Carolina.

Foothills’ new distribution partners include Mims Distributing Company (Triangle region); Caffey Distributing Company (Triad region); Coastal Beverage (Coastal region); and Healy Wholesale Company (Fayetteville). Foothills has also expanded existing relationships with United Beverages of North Carolina (Boone/Hickory/Lake Norman/Mooresville) and Carolina Premium Beverage (Charlotte).

“We’re fortunate that, thanks to the dedicated following we’ve built over the years, our beer is in high demand,” said Jamie Bartholomaus, president and brewmaster at Foothills. “Our goals for brand consolidation and increased sales efforts meant finding more partners. This is a big step for Foothills, so we spent a great deal of time selecting those distribution partners. We’re confident our brands will prosper under their guidance and direction.”

“People have been asking us when our beer would be available in six-packs,” added Scott Mizerak, sales manager at Foothills. “We’re happy, after years of having such a loyal following, to finally see Foothills brands on grocery shelves.”

“We are very excited to announce our partnership with Foothills,” said Mims Distributing Company CEO Chip Mims. “They are a great brewery that creates unique and distinctive beers, and we look forward to making them available to beer lovers throughout the Triangle.”

Foothills features over 20 seasonal and year-round hand-crafted beers, including its best-selling beers, Hoppyum IPA and Carolina Blonde.

Other year-round brands offered by Foothills include Torch Pilsner, People’s Porter, Pilot Mountain Pale Ale and Seeing Double IPA. Seasonal offerings include Foothills Red, Oktoberfest, Hefeweizen, and India Style Brown Ale, as well as the exclusive and highly anticipated Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout.

Foothills Hoppyum IPA, Torch Pilsner and People’s Porter will now be available in six-packs, as are their more recent brand acquisitions, Carolina Blonde Cream Ale and Strawberry Cream Ale, and Cottonwood Endo IPA. Cottonwood seasonals (Low Down American Brown, Pumpkin Ale, and Frostbite IPA) will be available in 6-packs as well.

An icon of the southern craft beer scene, Foothills began brewing beer in 2005. Since then they’ve gained a loyal following in central North Carolina. They’ve also garnered numerous awards for their products, including seven Great American Beer Festival medals and three World Cup Beer medals, more than any other North Carolina brewery.

That success prompted Foothills to expand their brewery a year ago, relocating the majority of their brewing operation from the company’s popular downtown Winston-Salem brewpub to a 50,000 square- foot facility. That move allowed Foothills to focus on bottling and six-pack distribution, which led to the need for distribution partnerships.

The coming months will see even more expansion for Winston-Salem’s hometown brewery. To keep up with demand, two 200 BBL fermenting tanks will be delivered and installed at the end of March, followed by two more at the end of the summer.

SweetWater Closes 2012 With A Happy Ending and Rolls Into 2013 With Big Plans (PR)

ATLANTA (January 8, 2013) — As 2012 came to an end, SweetWater Brewery once again began serving up its fan-favorite winter seasonal, Happy Ending, to thirsty Southeastern locals. Ironically, it’s also been one heck’ova happy ending for the folks at the brewery as they successfully culminated their 15th year of operation, and set their sights towards 2013.

SweetWater sold roughly 110,000-barrels in 2012, a 15% increase over 2011. Most of that growth came from SweetWater’s existing sales footprint, as it wasn’t until the fourth quarter of 2012 that the brewery was able to expand its distribution to various new Southeastern markets including: Tampa, Orlando, Sarasota and Ft. Myers, FL; Rock Hill, SC; and Cookeville and Clarksville, TN. With the help of its recent brewery expansion, SweetWater hopes to continue developing its distribution footprint in 2013 to bring its unpasteurized ales further into southeast Florida, westward into Tennessee, as well as entering the state of Virginia.

The brewery is adding the finishing touches on the final stage of its $19 million expansion, concluding a project nearly two years in the works. The last of the three construction overhaul projects, Phase 3, includes the brewery’s new 250-barrel brew house, an upgrade from their original 50-barrel facility. With 10 new 1,000-barrel fermentation tanks, four new 1000-barrel brite tanks and a slew of shiny new brew house equipment, brewers completed initial tests through the new system in late December, and are now dialing in the final touches before firing up the lines for the real deal.

The first beer to christen the new brew house will be a fresh label introduced from the brewery’s notorious Dank Tank series, entitled Some Strange. This black IPA is the latest of Captain Danko’s high-gravity concoctions, weighing in at 10.0% ABV. Folks can expect to see the brew hit shelves in the first quarter of 2013. SweetWater encourages drinkers to stay tuned for a future announcement outlining the story behind the beer and official launch details.

As the brewery casts its line into 2013, SweetWater promises to keep fans covered with all the need-to-know 411 on its lip-smackin’ lineup and events rolling out in the New Year. See attached for the brewery’s 2013 Fishing Calendar (a seasonal outline of beer releases) and the 2013 Events Calendar.

Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead is back for the Winter (PR)

(LONGMONT, CO) — It only happens once every two years… After hibernating in the Left Hand warehouse for 12 months, the brewery has emptied its cellar and released Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead for the winter season. This dark and complex beer begins with the brewery’s infamous Russian Imperial Stout and ages in whiskey barrels before blending it to woody perfection.

Bottle-conditioned for an authentic old-world experience, patience is required for this black full bodied stout. Wake Up Dead begins with Left Hand’s time tested Russian Imperial Stout recipe, representing 15 years of brewing experience. But unlike its year round predecessor, Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead is transferred to Colorado whiskey barrels, where the beer develops its dark complexities for months to come.   A smooth and warming stout, Wake Up Dead teases with hints of raisins, licorice, and toffee followed by earthy, herbal notes.

Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead is available on draft & in 22oz bottles and will be available in the 24 states where Left Hand is distributed and sold. Don’t be afraid of the dark. All power to the stouts!

About Left Hand Brewing Company

New Belgium Brewing Releases its First Lips of Faith Beers of 2013 (PR)

Ft. Collins, Colo., January 4, 2013— Coffee cherries, dates, feijoa and hibiscus are just a few of the creative ingredients found in the first round of New Belgium’s Lips of Faith beer series for 2013. The Lips of Faith series, which features New Belgium’s more esoteric and palate-elevating creations, will introduce two new selections per quarter throughout the year. Heavenly Feijoa Tripel is a collaboration beer with Montreal’s Dieu du Ciel! brewery and Cascara Quad is an ale that channels the Trappist tradition. The beers will be available in 22 oz. bottles in select markets now through March, or while supplies last.

Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness. Alcohol by volume is 10 percent.

Heavenly Feijoa Tripel combines Dieu du Ciel!’s love of hibiscus flowers with New Belgium’s passion for strange and worldly fruit. Feijoa, also known as pineapple guava, has a sweet, aromatic flavor, which makes the aroma of Heavenly Feijoa Tripel luscious and tropical. The beer has Belgian yeast and Nelson Sauvin hops, combining to make a sweet fruit taste, mild spicy tones and a sharp bite. Hibiscus adds a cranberry tartness and an ambrosial quality to the color. Alcohol by volume is nine percent.

“These two beers kick off the New Year with creativity and warmth,” said New Belgium brewer Grady Hull. “Collaboration has become an important element of many Lips of Faith selections and Heavenly Feijoa Tripel is just divine.”

Brooklyn Brewery, D. Carnegie & Co. & Carlsberg Sweden Collaborate (PR)

BROOKLYN, NY–Brooklyn Brewery, D. Carnegie & Co., and Carlsberg Sweden today announced the launch of a new brewery and restaurant in central Stockholm.

The Brooklyn- New Carnegie Brewery will be built in the landmarked Luma Factory buildings in Hammarby Sjöstad , a residential and commercial complex that fronts on Stockholm harbor. The waterfront brewery will have brewing capacity for 8,000 BBL’s and restaurant capacity for 100 visitors inside and another 150 visitors outside.

The Brooklyn Brewery will manage and operate the project through a wholly owned Swedish subsidiary, and Brooklyn Brewmaster Garrett Oliver and his team will be brewing special Brooklyn beers and developing new beers for the New Carnegie brand. “We love Stockholm, and the whole Brooklyn brewing team is looking forward to their stints at Brooklyn-New Carnegie. We’re going to have a lot of fun brewing and creating beers with our Swedish team,” said Oliver.

In 2011, the Brooklyn Brewery collaborated with Carnegie to produce a bourbon barrel-aged version of the world classic beer Carnegie Porter to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Carnegie Brewery.

“We distributed Carnegie Porter years ago in New York,” said Brooklyn Brewery Chief Operating Officer Eric Ottaway, who is spearheading the project for the Brooklyn Brewery. “We have great respect for the tradition that Carnegie represents, and we look forward to developing the portfolio of beers.”

Joakim Losin, CEO of New Carnegie, said the brewery and restaurant would be a meeting place for Sweden’s craft brewers and their followers, and a school for Swedish beer lovers to learn more about craft beer. The new brewery/restaurant will be open for tours and regular lunches and dinners. It also will host special events in a demonstration kitchen.

Carnegie is the oldest trademark in Sweden. The company was purchased by Carlsberg when it bought the Pripps Brewery in 2001, and Carlsberg Sweden was established.

Brooklyn Brewery brands have been imported by Carlsberg Sweden since 2006. Sweden is the largest export market for the Brooklyn Brewery.

Brooklyn ships many of its bottled beers to Sweden, including its flagship Brooklyn Lager and its 750-ml bottle-conditioned beers like Brooklyn Local 1 and Brooklyn Sorachi Ace. It also ships tankers of beer to

Sweden which are kegged in Falkenberg. Brooklyn Lager and Brooklyn East India Pale Ale are available on draft all over Sweden.

Brooklyn Brewery is America’s leading craft beer exporter. Brooklyn also has a joint venture partnership with the Amarcord Brewery in Apecchio, Italy. Brooklyn imports Amarcord’s Ama Bionda and Ama Bruna beers to the United States.
