Red Brick Brewing 20th Anniversary Party [PICS]

On Saturday, July 26th, Red Brick Brewing (Atlanta) celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a beer bash. They debuted their biggest beer ever – 20th Anni Imperial Stout, along with a host of experimental beers and one-offs. Of course, we were there, beer and camera in hand to capture a little bit of the day. A big congratulations to Red Brick for two decades of craft brewing. We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the future.

It’s Barrel Aged Mexican Cake Day at Westbrook [PICS]

Today at 3 pm, Westbrook Brewing (Mt Pleasant, SC) released three different barrel aged editions of their Mexican Cake Imperial Stout. What started as their 1st anniversary beer, brewed with vanilla beans, cocoa nibs, cinnamon and habanero peppers, has become a bit of a sensation. Cake was recently brewed again and bottled. (Lasted seconds on shelves.) Morgan and Edward Westbrook knew the one thing they could do to make this hit even better? Barrel aging.

Three offerings launched today – Apple Brandy Barrel Aged, Jack Daniels Barrel Aged, and Cabernet Barrel Aged. Despite the rain, thirsty people lined up for the release. More pics to come. Thanks to Yelp Charleston Community Manager Scott Carpenter for the pics.

Inside the Atlanta Food And Wine Festival 2013 [PICS]

Summer officially arrived over the first weekend in June, when the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival hit the streets of Midtown. Beer Street Journal was there, scoping out the craft beer and food scene at one of the finest festivals we’ve ever attended.

After a 10 year partnership, Elizabeth Feichter and Dominique Love joined forces to create AFWF a couple of years back and it has grown in to a must-do event for all Southern food and drink fanatics. The three day event puts attendees in the mix with some of the best chefs, brewers, winemakers, and mixologists the southeast has to offer.

Beer lovers weren’t left out. Atlanta saw a couple of brewers (and breweries) that aren’t seen very often, including Foothills (Winston-Salem, NC) and Mystery Brewing (Hillsborough, NC). In the images below, note Edward and Morgan Westbrook (Westbrook Brewing), Jaimie Bartholomaus (Foothills), Bob Sandage (Wrecking Bar Brewpub), and Bob Townsend (Beer writer, AJC). Goose Island, Wild Heaven Craft Beers, Lazy Magnolia, and Lexington Brewing & Distilling  also joined in on the fun.

Go ahead and drool over some of the food and drink pictures, including Top Chef Eli Kirshtein pouring a SweetWater Blue/Moonshine cocktail, bacon, steak, and the amazing people in craft beer. Enjoy, and don’t miss the festival next year. [AtlantaFood&WineFestival]

Muddiest Beer Fest in History? 2013 Brewvival [PICS]

This past Saturday marked the 4th Annual Brewvival in Charleston, South Carolina. The festival is absolutely laden with some of the best beer you’ll find on American soil. Notable brewers such as Justin Stange (7venth Sun), Ron Extract (Jester King), “Spike” Buchowski and John Cochran (Terrapin Beer), Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head), Ken Grossman (Sierra Nevada), & many more were in attendance. Despite an incredible beer lineup, 2013 Brewival may have won the title of “Muddiest Beer Festival in History”. Woodstock ain’t got sh*t on this.  It never.stopped.raining.

As you can see – the beer faithful persevered, weather beer damn. There is beer to drink. Brewvival is sponsored by Coast Brewing and The Charleston Beer Exchange.

Atlanta’s Winter Beer Carnival 2013 [PICS]

On Saturday, February 9th, 2013 Atlanta saw its 4th Winter Beer Carnival. For those who haven’t been, imagine a craft beer fest stocked with carnival games, food, and even an ice slide. (Hey, in Atlanta it’s like spotting the Lochness Monster.) I’ve noticed something change over time at beer festivals, especially those in the SouthEast. What was once an opportunity for people to get just completely plowed, has since evolved into people clamoring to try new things with an open mind and incredible enthusiasm.

For those beer geeks that find themselves too good for festivals, it’s time for you to embrace that this newfound enthusiasm a great thing for the beer you (and I) love so dearly. It is how the industry grows. Plus, didn’t we all have some fun??? Don’t act like you weren’t doing the Macarena.

Lonerider Brewing Launches in Atlanta [PICS]

 

Lonerider Brewing Company (Raleigh, NC) has officially expanded outside of North Carolina to Atlanta this past weekend. The brewery traveled to Atlanta for a series of launch parties around the city.  Initial launch beers include:

Sweet Josie – A temptress who will seduce you, Sweet Josie is crafted in the American Brown style. This is a complex beer balancing a nice hop bitterness with a generous amount of chocolate and aromatic malts. 6.1% ABV.

Shotgun Betty – is a sexy, tough cowgirl who is always armed and dangerous. Don’t be fooled by her good looks, she will have you for an appetizer! That’s why we picked her to represent our Hefeweizen. Shotgun Betty is a wheat beer with a rich, banana-clove nose and refreshing dry finish. Sound good? Try one. But beware, once Betty gets a hold of you there is no escape. 5.8% ABV

Both are initially offered on draft, with 12oz bottles to follow in the future. More from the brewery’s lineup coming soon also. It has been a long road to this point too, as getting approved in the State of Georgia took 2 months longer than expected.
