Meet the adult juice box. Jekyll Southern Juicy Juice debuts

Jekyll Southern Juicy Juice is the latest dank offering from the Alpharetta, Georgia brewery.

An IPA by the name of Hop Dang Diggity was the start of Jekyll Brewing’s hoppy journey four years ago. Earlier this year, Southern Juice hit the scene elevating the suburban Atlanta brewery’s hop game to a new level. Southern Juice is a tropical blast of hops but still pours crystal clear. (You know, the traditional way.)

Folks these days want an India pale ale that is hazy and juicy. Head Brewer and co-owner Josh Rachel thought “fuck it, make one”.

With a 1-barrel pilot system in hand, a new brewhouse and relaxed Georgia beer laws, Rachel has had more room to experiment. After spending a few late nights on the Lupulin Exchange buying the hops needed, the hazy creation that would be Southern Juicy Juice was green-lighted.

Any similarities with Southern Juice and Southern Juicy Juice ends with the name. From smell to pour, they might as well be strangers. Southern Juicy Juice looks like orange juice and smells like a hoppy tropical drink as it warms. 5 pounds of Azacca, Vic Secret, Apollo and Mosaic hops per barrel will do that. Those heavy-handed additions of hops really shine with each sip.

The malt bill includes flaked oats and wheat, making Juicy finish smooth and almost creamy. Easily one of the best IPAs by Jeykll to date.

Jekyll Southern Juicy Juice will make appearances in 16-ounce 4 packs intermittently as the hops become available. By design, Rachel is making this beer in limited quantities hoping to keep people drinking this as fresh as possible.

Style: IPA
Hops: Azacca, Mosaic, Vic Secret, Apollo
Malts: 2-Row, Flaked Oats, Flaked Wheat=

SweetWater has bottled their coffee bourbon barrel-aged stout as ‘Sinners Son’

Coffee and bourbon barrel-aging meet in SweetWater Sinners Son, a release that truly needs to be on your radar.

The road to this release began with SweetWater Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. After years of working on the barrel-aged stout, it was finally released in 2015.

RELATED: SweetWater Cherry Pit & The Pendulum debuts soon

Earlier this year, SweetWater opened a new extension to the brewery designed just for wild ales and barrel-aged beers dubbed The Woodlands. Ever so casually, the brewery introduced a coffee infused edition of the bourbon imperial stout on draft in the expansion. The result? Absolutely incredible.

The blend of vanilla oak, freshly roasted coffee, and a touch of bitter chocolate makes SweetWater Sinners Son one of the best barrel-aged coffee stouts we’ve ever tried. It was finally bottled under its new name.

Sinner’s Son is ripe with age, driven to the cellar for months to mature in bourbon barrels. Just prior to bottling, a fresh blend of coffee and espresso beans from the JavaVino farm was introduced to harmonize with roasted malts and bring balance to its complex barrel aged soul. This imperial stout is decadent at 12.4% ABV with rich chocolate and vanilla notes, a velvety mouthfeel, and hints of oak.

SweetWater Sinners Son was blended in late-September and bottled this week.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee. Barrel Aged. Bourbon. Lactose.)
Hops: Columbus
Malt: 2 Row, Chocolate, Roasted Barley, Flaked Oats, Crystal, Victory

Availability: 500ml Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Halloween Weekend 2017

12.4% ABV

Big on vanilla & roasty chocolate: Garage Brewing Marshmallow Milk Stout

Dessert beer fan? Don’t miss Garage Brewing Marshmallow Milk Stout.

Beer Street Journal is a sucker for dessert beers. It started years ago with an addiction to Left Hand Milk Stout (aka adult chocolate milk). Since then, milk stouts, chocolate beers, vanilla beers – always on our radar. Thanks to the team at Temecula, California’s Garage Brewing Co., we have a new love –Marshmallow Milk Stout.

The base beer is a creamy, chocolatey milk stout that leans heavy on vanilla. The first whiff of this beer is like opening a bag of marshmallows. The vanilla aroma remains strong on vanilla as it mixes with light hints of chocolate. The full beer experience is a complex beer that doesn’t lean on some artifical vanilla flavor and a name to capture your attention. This dessert beer is the real deal and worth the cash if you find it.

Garage Brewing Marshmallow Milk Stout is available year-round in 12 and 22-ounce bottles, and draft.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Vanilla. Chocolate. Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz, 22oz Bottles. Draft. Year-round.
Distribution: Southern California

7.1% ABV, 9 IBUS

Java Stout out, Bell’s Arabicadabra hits shelves

A new coffee heavy milk stout has is hitting shelves around the U.S. – Bell’s Arabicadabra.

The coffee puns abound in this new seasonal release. Bell’s Brewery chose Grand Rapids, Michigan based roaster Ferris Coffee for the beans. As far as the 2017 seasonal lineup is concerned, Bell’s Arabicadabra will stand in for the longstanding fan favorite, Java Stout.

Bell’s Larry’s Latest Sour Ale debuts in 2018

Arabicadabra uses a cold coffee extract made on site at the brewery, using Nicaraguan and Sumatran coffee beans and a touch of the milk sugar.

Java Stout will always have a special place in our portfolio and isn’t being permanently retired. This year, we are changing things up a bit. Arabicadabra is a different take on a coffee stout and very similar to a local favorite that was released at our pub and at some events. It’s time to share it with an even larger audience.” – Laura Bell, CEO

Bell’s Arabicadabra is now available in 12-ounce bottles and draft for a limited time.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Coffee. Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Fall, 2017

5.5% ABV

Stranger things fan? You want The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night

The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night first debuted in cans on May 30th. The beer returns to the lineup again on October 24th.

This one is all about the dry-hop. Broz Broz Night Night is the “brother” beer to the Citra hop heavy Broz Night Out. The Veil opted to double dry-hop this edition, uping it to what they call “cray-cray” status.

This one turned out insane. We love the base beer, but with the DDH treatment, it’s just crazy. Just in time for the new season of Stranger Things too!

The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night will be available at the brewery in Richmond, Virginia in all it’s hazy goodness again on October 24th.

The Bruery Black Tuesday on sale today, now with east coast pickup

There are few beers that can silence a room when opened like The Bruery Black Tuesday.

Sure, barrel-aged beers can be found year-round on nearly every shelf in America. Few of those come with the mystique, reverence, and in-your-face boldness that Black Tuesday has in tow.

If our memory serves us correctly, the first release of Black Tuesday was in October of 2009. The world didn’t know what it was in for. A young brewery that had been releasing saisons and Berliner Weisse was about to make sure you didn’t underestimate their capabilities. A 19+% alcohol by volume imperial stout loomed, and was immediately embraced by their burgeoning fan base.

Here in 2017, it’s an unwritten rule in craft beer that you at least know the name Black Tuesday even if you haven’t had it yet. In 8 short years, BT has joined the ranks of some of the most well-known stouts in America. Hitting the barrels at more than 16% ABV, it rests in a plethora of first use bourbon barrels for nearly a year, just waiting for October.

Throwing some flavor adjectives at you – chocolate, molasses, vanilla, bourbon. If that’s what you crave, you’ll find that in abundance in Black Tuesday.  Damn, don’t forget about bourbon. This truly is the bourbon drinker’s beer. Don’t dare go looking for subtlety or nuance here either. Perhaps that’s what throws some folks off when they taste it. They expect something restrained or even refined, and what really lurks in the glass is nothing short of bold and unforgettable.

Going into their 9th release, The Bruery Black Tuesday is still not easy to come by. You literally have one day to get your hands on it and that day is coming on October 24th. From there it’s a piece of cake. Just get yourself out to California to pick it up, or find a trustworthy friend within the Golden State to ship it to you. Now that The Bruery is opening a Washington D.C. location, east coasters have a place to pick it up as well.

Here’s how to get it:

On October 24th at 10 AM PT log on to TheBrueryStore.com and begin your purchase. Bottles are $29.99, with a limited of (6) per person. You can pick up at The Bruery starting on Halloween, or at the new Washington D.C. store on November 14th. Shipping within California begins on Halloween as well.

One of the most elusive beers out there is now a little easier to get.
