Creature Comforts announces blended “Subtle Alchemy” Series

Athens, Georgia based Creature Comforts debuts new “Subtle Alchemy” Series this fall.

This new series will feature unique, one-off blends from various barrels in the brewery’s wood cellar. Each carefully selected blend is designed to only ever exist the one time, never to be replicated again.

Each blend is distinct in its parts and singular in the moment in time it is created.

Currently, there are details regarding the first three blended ‘Subtle Alchemy’ releases.

  • Blend 001 – bottled 1/10/17 – Three separate French oak fermented saisons aged 10-14 months. Deep wood, must, earth, lemon zest, tart.
  • Blend 002 – bottled 1/13/17. – This blend is an exploration of American oak, an uncommon voice in our mixed fermentation wood cellar. Two of the three threads in this blend, the oldest being DaySpring aged on second-use Balaton cherries for 22 months, are aged in American oak giving it a more creamy and vanilla tone than many of our French oak aged beers. Light cherry fruit, vanilla, creamy, tart.
  • Blend 003 – bottled 1/31/17 – There are many pieces to blend number 3. The overall theme is an expression of hops and citrus through time and mixed fermentation. Zest from lemons and oranges, multiple independent dry hops, and very small amounts of apricots bring this blend to life. Ranging in age from 12-24 months this blend has brightness and depth. Citrus, overripe fruit, stone fruit, tart.
  • Those attending the Shelton Brothers Festival in Atlanta this weekend will have the opportunity to try Blend 001 before it can be found in the taproom.

Creature Comforts Subtle Alchemy is a limited, 750 milliliter bottle offering starting this fall.

“Blissfully inefficient” Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA debuts in November

Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA will round out the Delaware brewery’s 2017 lineup later this year.

The makers of famed 60, 90 and 120 Minute IPA released coconutty hit Lupu-Luau this summer. This winter is looking hoppy as well. Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum first appeared as a brewpub exclusive back in 2016. The “blissfully inefficient IPA” is only hopped after the boil with Warrior, Simcoe, and Calypso hops, and then gets extra tropical thanks to Azacca, Mosaic, and Citra hops. This IPA is all about hop aromas.

As long as the recipe stays the same when it comes time to bottle this release, expect more of the same.

Truthfully hoppy without being deceptively bitter.

Dogfish Head Liquid Truth Serum IPA will be available in 12-ounce bottles and draft. Currently on the brewery’s calendar for November 2017.

Style: IPA
Hops: Azacca, Mosaic, Citra, Warrior, Simcoe, Calypso

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: November, 2017

7.2% ABV

Branding Update: Monday Night Blood Orange Blind Pirate

Monday Night Blood Orange Blind Pirate is getting a little branding update. The brewery

This rendition of Blind Pirate got its start in the  Clip-On Series – a side project for Monday Night. The brewery takes a year round offering and throws it a curve ball. (Note: The series now includes none year-round beers too.)

The first release was Serrano Eye Patch Ale, a peppery spin on the year round English-style IPA. Not long after, Blind Pirate, their double IPA received a little blood orange treatment. As October winds down, you can get Blood Orange Blind Pirate in 12-ounce cans.

Pirates love citrus fruits almost as much as they love blood. If the phrase “you are what you eat” is true, then pirates are blood oranges. If the phrase “you are what you drink” is true, you’re about to be an incredibly delicious, juicy hop bomb of an IPA. We add bits of real blood orange to every beer, so you know it’s good.

Monday Night Blood Orange Blind Pirate is a draft, and 12-ounce can release.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Blood Orange)
Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Magnum
Malts: 2 Row, Wheat, Caramel

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-Round.
Release (Cans): October, 2016

Orpheus Ascending IPA to join year-round lineup

In March of 2016, Orpheus released The Rites India Pale Ale. Despite the popularity of that release, the brewery ceased brewing it in November. Looks like that space in the lineup will be filled by Ascending IPA in the near future.

This summer Orpheus is also adding Over and Over, a new pineapple sour to their year-round lineup.

A debut date hasn’t been set, but you can expect Orpheus Ascending IPA to be available in 12-ounce cans and draft.

Stone Brewing teams up with punk band NOFX, debuts festival

NOFX can easily considered one of the most successful independent bands of all time. Formed in 1983 by bassist Fat Mike and guitarist Eric Melvin, the band has never signed with a major label. That kind of independence is very familiar to California’s Stone Brewing. Perhaps that’s where Stone Punk in Drublic, a collaboration with NOFX rises from.

First, the name. Stone Punk in Drublic is named for NOFX’s 1994 release by the same name, considered the band’s most popular release, selling over a million copies.

This craft brewing meets punk music collaboration, is a hoppy lager perfect for “when you just need something to wash the noise down.” In conjunction with the release, Stone and NOFX have unveiled Punk In Drublic Craft Beer & Music Festival in five U.S. cities, with the band and 100+ craft beers headlining the party. Other muscial acts include Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, Less than Jake, and Goldfinger.

This beer was brewed as a collaboration between Stone Brewing and Fat Mike. Who showed up and mostly just got in the way.
