Elysian teams up with epic glam rockers Def Leppard

Elysian Brewing and legendary band Def Leppard have a new musically inspired beer. Def Leppard Pale Ale debuts this summer.

The band is touring with another epic band Journey this summer, starting with Hartford, Connecticut on May 21st. Seattle, Washington is no stranger to music (or beer for that matter). In honor of Def Leppard’s Sheffield, England origin, the duo created an English-style pale ale brewed with English malts, and American-grown Pacific Northwest hops.

Def Leppard Pale is what happens when a mega British rock band collides with an American craft brewery. Both fanatics of their craft, Def Leppard and Elysian are excited to blend their worlds together, music and beer.

16-ounce cans of Elysian Def Leppard Pale Ale will be available in select tour cities starting on the band’s second stop on May 23rd in Albany, New York. The can design is a tribute to the 30th Anniversary of Def Leppard’s Hysteria album, known for epic songs like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Love Bites”.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Chinook, Magnum
Malts: 2 Row, Munich, Carahell, Acidulated

Ommegang Neon Rainbows will be the brewery’s first in-house can

Brewery Ommegang has announced the addition of a canning line to their Cooperstown, New York facility. Their first “in-house” cans will debut this month.

FX Matt Brewing has been assisting Ommegang with canning for the past two years. Witte Wheat Ale and Nirvana IPA, and Short Sleeve Saison have been distributed to New York state only.

Despite the brewery’s diverse portfolio of beers, Ommegang Neon Rainbows has been tapped for their inaugural home aluminum run. Neon Rainbows is just the second release in the brewery’s “Farmstead Series” of beers, following Hopstate NY IPA.

Transcending the Ommegang’s Belgian inspired traditions, Neon Rainbows is a double dry-hopped New England style IPA. Originally, Rainbows was brewed for ‘Belgium comes to Cooperstown Festival’, only to become a favorite with the brewery local and loyal. The big, juicy IPA features a hefty lineup of hops, including Magnum, Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra, Centennial, and Topaz. The dank dry-hop lineup includes Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra, and Topaz.

Bursting with juicy tropical fruit flavors and aromas and paired with a pillowy mouthfeel and low bitterness, Neon Rainbows is 6.6% ABV and 45 IBUs.

The only downside to this news? Ommegang Neon Rainbows is a brewery only release on May 26th.

Style: Hazy IPA
Hops: Magnum, Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra, Centennial, Topaz
Availability: 16oz Cans. Brewery Only
Debut (Cans): 5/26/18

Stone will make a strong political statement with ‘I’M PEACH’ Double IPA this month

Stone Brewing will make a strong political statement this May.. Stone I’M PEACH Double IPA is coming by month’s end.

We live in turbulent times. uThe United States is more polarized politically then it has in years. By the looks of it, Stone Brewing will be making a bold political statement in the form of a beer – Stone I’M PEACH Double IPA.

Related: 5 Rabbit Chinga tu Pelo, an Anti-Trump beer

In case you missed the not subtle note in the name – I’M PEACH aka IMPEACH. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out they are alluding to President Trump. Read the allusion in the beer’s description:

It’s what a lot of us are thinking. We want to shout I’M PEACH from the rooftops. Yet, we’re afraid of the potential alienation from select peach-hating members of our friends and family. We want to call fro and I’M PEACH, but we’re afraid that we’ll look soft. Peach soft, like some freedom hating sissy, right? Nope. Not in our world. We know peaches are for the righteous. We’ve seen the light of their sweet juicy glory and how they pair excellently with the standup character of an American IPA. It’s not just right for you, it’s right for the country. You’re proud of our beautiful nation. You support good taste. Have an I’M PEACH party and we’ll unite hops, peaches, and each other.

Not much subtlety found there.

Stone I’M PEACH Double IPA will debut in late May 2018 in 12-ounce cans and draft.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Peaches)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: Late May 2018

Find out what Roald Dahl really meant, plus Pontoon Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries

This one is for Willy Wonka fans. Pontoon Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries debuts this weekend.

In real life, snozzberries aren’t real. You’d be surprised how many people didn’t know that. There’s more to snozzberries though. Sure, they are fictitious, but there’s an ongoing debate running around the internet that Dahl’s snozzberries were actually penises, thanks to a reference from this 1979 novel My Uncle Oswald. How he used “snozzberry” in that book was years after defining it differently.

In 1948, Roald Dahl published Some Time Never: A Fable for Supermen. In the book, Dahl defines snozzberries as the main source of food for displaced gremlins that humans drove underground. 16 years later, Wonka himself in references it again with his lickable, fruit-laden wallpaper.

As for the beer, the brewery has envisioned what a snozzberry might actually taste like, and it doesn’t require licking wallpaper.

Pontoon Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries is a Berliner Weisse brewed with 2 pounds of boysenberries and black currants per gallon, as well as vanilla and lactose milk sugar. The end result is basically an alcoholic fruit smoothy that finishes with a touch of tartness and lingering vanilla. If fruit/dessert beers are your thing, don’t pass this release up.

Pontoon Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries will be available at the brewery in 16-ounce cans on May 12th.

Style: Berliner Weisse (w/ Boysenberries. Black Currants. Vanilla. Lactose.)
Availability: 16oz cans, Draft.
Debut: 5/12/18

Mango, guava and passionfruit highlight April’s SweetWater Tropical Lover

SweetWater Tropical Lover rolls off the can in Atlanta as a new seasonal in April.

Nick Burgoyne, brewer at SweetWater has been developing this recipe for some time now. He created a low alcohol by volume Berliner Weisse; adding mango, guava, and passionfruit to the beer. The result was something quite tropical and very refreshing.

“When we put test batches on tap at the Woodlands and in our main taproom, people kept commenting on how drinkable and refreshing it was; they loved the tropical flavors. I imagine Tropical Lover will be a hit with folks hanging out on the water all summer, kicking back with a few daytime drinks.” – Nick B.

SweetWater Tropical Lover will be available in 12-ounce cans and draft starting April 7th. Look for a launch party at the brewery on April 19th.

Boulevard Hibiscus Gose debuts in cans in April

Boulevard Hibiscus Gose will debut in cans in April.

This floral gose started as a Boulevard holiday beer years ago, bottled briefly in the brewery’s Backroads Series in 2014. Boulevard Hibiscus Gose is created by adding sea salt during the boiling process, along with coriander. During the whirlpool process, Boulevard infuses the wort with dried hibiscus flowers.

A slightly salty aroma with a touch of coriander and citrus/cherry notes wafts from the beer. The leading flavor is a lemony tartness obtained from the brewhouse souring process with subtle salt and coriander notes. Hibiscus Gose finishes crisp and dry with a slightly lingering sourness that’s tempered by the sea salt, coriander, and hibiscus flowers.

Boulevard Hibiscus Gose debuts in the brewery’s home city of Kansas City, Missouri on April 2nd. Expect 12-ounce cans and draft in the brewery’s other regions shortly after launch.

Style: Gose (Hibiscus, Coriander, Sea Salt)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut (Cans): 4/2/18

4.2% ABV
