Wicked Weed Pernicious Released in Bottles

Wicked Weed Pernicious India Pale Ale has joined the Asheville, North Carolina’s bottle lineup later this year.

The brewery’s new production facility is now online, where both Wicked Weed Pernicious and Freak of Nature have now emerged. Pernicious has already been available on draft in the past.

When the beer debuted in March, Wicked Weed found that Blue Blood Brewing Company in Nebraska already sold a “Pernicious” beer. A quick call to Blue Blood, found their president Brian Podwinski quite amiable, and allowed Wicked to use the name as well.

Pernicious implies influence that is harmful in a way not easily noticed. This beer is harmful, not because of overwhelming hop bitterness, but because its balanced brightness insidiously ruins your expectations for all other IPA’s. This hop delivery vehicle is crafted to enjoy fresh and often, and because of its drinkability and clean finish, you’ll never look at other IPA’s the same again. The harm is done.

Wicked Weed Pernicious is available in 11.2oz bottles.

Style: IPA
Availability: Draft, 11.2oz Bottles
Bottle Release: August, 2015

7.3% ABV

Wicked Weed Freak of Nature Now in Bottles

Wicked Weed Freak of Nature, the brewery’s popular imperial IPA, has finally been packaged.

Rumors that Wicked Weed Freak of Nature would be bottled immediately started circulating when the Asheville, North Carolina brewery announced a production facility during a media preview of now open Funkatorium.

Wicked Weed’s Walt Dickinson mentioned in a few tweets at the end of May that the brewery was would be bottling this hoppy beast of a beer. This week, the beer was finally bottled.

The Freak of Nature is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of the big West Coast hops gives this beer its citrusy, weedy nose and big, dank flavor. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch, which is over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In keeping with the classic style of the West Coast double, sugar plays a large part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter, we welcome you to the Freak Show.

Wicked Weed Freak of Nature first bottle bound brew day was July 21st. Headed to market now, sold as single, 16.9oz bottles.

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: 16.9oz Bottles, Draft.
Bottle Release: 8/15/15, Distribution shortly after.

8.5% ABV

Update 7/21, the first brew day is today. With the conclusion of Funk Asheville and the release of White Angel, Wicked Weed if focusing on Freak of Nature release, and other bottles. From Walt Dickinson:

Women in Beer: Erin Jones of Wicked Weed & White Angel

Wicked Weed Brewing (Asheville, NC) released the third offering in their “Angels” Series over the weekend.

White Angel follows Wicked Weed Red Angel that kicked off the line, and Golden Angel. The approach to the “Angels’ is to incorporate local fruits with the house wild yeast and bacteria in the barrels in the Funkatorium.

Later this year, a fourth angel will rise from the barrels, Wicked Weed Angel of Darkness. Darkness is a blend of all three previous angels, aged in Oloroso Sherry barrels. The result will be a nearly 13% alcohol by volume sour ale you won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Erin Jones, one of Wicked Weed’s best, sits down with Beer Street Journal again on a rainy release day. (She also was at the helm of Funk Asheville the night before, having only just a few hours to sleep before back at it at dawn.) If you ever find yourself having a beer with her, you are having one with one the industry’s most talented women.

The beer sold out in just over an hour.
