Odell & Thornbridge Create Pond Hopper [Video]

Recently, Caolan Vaughn from Thornbridge Brewing (England) visited Odell Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) to create an English/American collaboration: Pond Hopper. Doug Odell (the brewery’s founder of course) has a strong admiration for the brewing culture of in the UK. The admiration that lead him on a few trips “across the pond.” That’s where Pond Hopper comes in. An imperial pale ale, brewed with English malts, all American hops, plus galaxy hops. Odell & Thornbridge Make Pond Hopper

Odell Brewing & Thornbridge Brewing have been working on a collaboration across the pond. Pond Hopper is the second collaboration Odell has done with the UK based brewery.

Doug Odell’s admiration for the British brewing culture has led him across the pond – a lot. In 2008, Doug landed at Thornbridge Brewery and in the company of kindred brewing spirits. This visit led to a collaboration brew at Thorniridge in 2010. Fast forward to 2012 to find the two breweries at it again, this time at OdeIl Brewing. Pond Hopper Double Extra Pale Ale is the love child of this international brewmance. Brewed with English malts and American hops, Pond Hopper brings together the best ingredients each country has to offer, balancing a subtle sweet malt character with hosts of mango and peach hop flavor. It pours a rich golden color with citrus and ripe melon essence in the nose. No matter which side of the pond you’re on, here’s to good beer and good friends. Cheers.

NEW RELEASE: Thornbridge Kipling

The new one heads to you from Thornbridge Brewing (England). Kipling, a “South Pacific Pale Ale” joins St. Petersburg, Halcyon, and Jaipur in the brewery’s American lineup. Why South Pacific? Read the description for clues.

Commercial Description:
Golden blonde beer with an exquisite passionfruit, gooseberry and mango aroma. An initial sweetness and full body are balanced by a lasting grapefruit-like bitter finish.

Style: English Pale Ale

Taste Expectations: Citrus hops, with a tropical flair. Expect pineapple/mango. Honey, herbal flavor. Malts are pale w/ a touch of biscuit.

Availability: 16oz bottles. No U.S. draft to date.

Thornbridge Brewing’s St. Petersburg

Thornbridge Brewing (England) launched in Georgia about 6 months ago with “Halcyon” a wet hopped imperial IPA. The newest release – “St Petersburg”

Commercial Description:
Dark brown with a creamy tan head, almost latte like in appearance. Lemony, minty hop nose with underlying chocolate-caramel. Big, sweet roasted malt in the mouth with hints of chicory and bitter coffee. Some dark chocolate and wisps of peaty smoke. Boozy, bitter finish with some roasted hazelnut and maple syrup characters. Nice, slightly dry, bitter ending.

Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Taste Expectations: Roast coffee, bitter chocolate. Some smoke. Dark fruits. Smooth flavor and finish.

Availability: 220z bombers. Thornbridge does a lot of cask offerings. Be on the look out.
