Terrapin Releases Dr. Krunkles. Learn it From Spike [VIDEO]

Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA) has just released #20 in the Side Project lineup – Dr. Krunkles Farmhouse IPA. The brew is a crossover of two styles – an IPA and a Belgian witbier. Tack that on with a little white peppercorn and age it on white ash, you have a beer worth of the Side Project.

This is the fourth “Krunkles” release, just after his Orient trip. Apparently this legendary character took to the lab after putting down his katana sword to discover this fusion of styles. Don’t look at me, I’ve never met the guy. Look for this in all Terrapin’s 10 states.

Style: Farmhouse Ale (w/ White Peppercorn, Oak Aged. White Ash)
Hops El Dorado, Centennial, Sorachi Ace (dry hop)
Malts: 2 Row Pale, Torrified Wheat, Malted Wheat, Flaked Oats, Acidulated

Terrapin & Shmaltz Team Up Again on Cancer Fighting Brew

Shmaltz Brewing Company (Clifton Park, NY), Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA), Alan Shapiro (SBS Imports) have teamed up to release another round of Reunion Ale. Subtitled A Beer For H0pe, a portion of the proceeds is donated to the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer.

This year’s feel good release is based off of 2012’s recipe, but with a new addition – coffee. The base imperial brown ale has cocoa nibs from Nashville’s Olive & Sinclair, vanilla beans, and cinnamon too. Look for bottles of this beer to hit shelves soon alongside fundraising events.

Style: Brown Ale (w/ Cinnamon, Cocoa Nibs & Shells, Vanilla Beans, Coffee)
Hops: Willamette
Malts: Pale 2 Row, Victory, Special Roast, Crystal, Brown Malt, Chocolate

Football Is Back! SEC Rivalry Creates Beer Collab

25th Parallel Ale

Those of you not too into college football you’ll need this backstory. Terrapin Beer Company is based in Athens, Georgia – home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. SawWorks Brewing is based in Knoxville, Tennessee – home of the Tennessee Volunteers. Both SEC teams are hardcore rivals. Trust me, I’ve stormed the field years ago in Athens. (Yep, still proud of it.)

The rivalry is deeper than just football. The name, 35th Parallel Ale refers to a centuries old border dispute that came back up a few years ago. During a severe drought, the State of Georgia brought up a nearly 200 year old cartographical mistake, that would move Georgia’s border back over a piece of the Tennessee River, to the 35th Parallel. That would give the state access to a much needed water supply.

Terrapin’s brewmaster “Spike” will brew this alcoholic throw down of a beer tomorrow in Knoxville. Style nuances are soon to follow.

September/October is the ETA on this year’s release.

Terrapin Beer Company’s (Athens, GA) fall offering Pumpkinfest has shipped. Fest is a fusion of an oktoberfest meets pumpkin beer.A whirlpool of spices are used to create Pumpkinfest, including ginger, allspice, and ground clove. (Starting to sound like pumpkin pie?) The spices are heated, but not boiled. Boiling the spices raises the potential for unwanted flavors to enter into the brew. The finishing touch is the 1 lb of pumpkin used per 31 gallons of this brew.

Hops: Vanguard, Hallertau, Hersbrucker
Malts: Munich, Vienna, Munich II, Caramunich II, Melanoidin
