Terrapin’s New Festbier with a Southern Twist

Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, GA) already brews a rendition of an oktoberfest, infused with pumpkin and spices. You know it as Pumpkinfest.

The brewery is working on another fest offering, with a southern twist – Terrapin Cuckoo Fest Southern Style Festbier. The brewing team created a festbier recipe with all German malts, and for an added southern flair, grits. If you don’t know what grits are, get Googling.

What time is it!? Time for Cuckoofest Southern Style Festbier! Brewed with all German malts for a traditional taste, and real Blue Ridge Mountain grits for a Southern Twist, CuckooFest Festbier will put the heehaw back in your yodel. Have one with your favorite plate of wurst, or with some down home fried chicken.

Terrapin Cuckoofest will be available in 22oz bottles and draft.

Terrapin Fires Up Canning Line

Until today, Terrapin Beer Co. (Athens, GA) has been canning offsite at Two Roads Brewing in Stratford, Connecticut. Terrapin has had the desire to can for a long time, and opted initially to see the viability (sell-through) of cans by contracting the process.

They started with RecreationAle, and recently added Hi-5 IPA. Both have done quite well for Terrapin, prompting them to order a canning line earlier in the year.

Today, the first canning run was successful tested. Very soon, both offerings will be Georgia brewed, and Georgia canned.

This opens the door to more Terrapin options in the can in the future. Personally, we’re gunning for Golden Ale.

Terrapin Pumpkinfest Already Bottled

With July 4th weekend barely in the rear view mirror, fall is already on the way from craft breweries. Terrapin Beer Company’s (Athens, GA) Pumpkinfest 2014 has already been bottled.

Fest is a fusion of an oktoberfest meets pumpkin beer.A whirlpool of spices are used to create Pumpkinfest, including ginger, allspice, and ground clove. . The finishing touch is the 1 lb of pumpkin used per 31 gallons of this brew.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Ginger, Allspice, Clove, Pumpkin)
Hops: Vanguard, Hallertau, Hersbrucker
Malts: Munich, Vienna, Munich II, Caramunich II, Melanoidin

Terrapin’s New Box Set

Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA) has hit shelves, with a couple of new things to note.

First, the newest year round beer, Liquid Bliss Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter. The Side Project #18 got a major upgrade this month when the brewery launched it year round.

Secondly, another Side Project release has been reborn for the Box Set, Side Project #10 – Capt’n Krunkles. The black IPA is back, and joins Rye Pale Ale and Hopsecutioner to round (square out) the box set.

Terrapin Box Set features three of each offering, for a total of 12 bottles.

Beer Street Journal Video: Terrapin & Green Flash Create Tangerine Dreamsicle

The collaboration got started with Green Flash Brewing (San Diego, CA) wanting to brew a beer called Road Warrior, to honor their employees that always travel. One hiccup, Terrapin Beer Company in Athens, GA already had dibs on the name.

Green Flash made more than one financial offer for “Road Warrior.” Terrapin decided to allow Green Flash to use the name, under one condition. You’ll find out in the above Beer Street Journal video.

Green Flash’s brewmaster Chuck Silva joins Terrapin brewmaster and co-founder “Spike” Buckowski to create a different spin on an ipa. Tangerine Dreamsicle is brewed with Azacca hops (pretty new breed), and tangerine peel, along with lactose (milk sugar) to turn this beer into an orange creamsicle.

Available in Terrapin’s 12 distribution states in 22oz bombers and draft for a limited time.

Last year, Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA) started a limited release lineup they dubbed the “Reserve Series.” First offerings were new spins on classic brewery releases, including White Chocolate Moo-Hoo and Cinnamon Roll’d W-n-B.

In addition to both of those beers returning in limited quantity in 2014, a couple of new beers are joining the Reserve series this fall, including Terrapin Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter. Loosely based on late summer seasonal, Pumpkinfest, this porter uses pumpkin and a big dose of pie seasonings.

Terrapin Midnight Monk Joining Monster Tour

A brew day is coming up this summer to finalize the recipe for Terrapin Midnight Monk Black India Pale Ale, slated to be released in September. Monk will join the Monster Beer Tour this year in place of previous Monster Beer Tour member Big Hoppy Monster. 

Midnight Monk is an black IPA brewed with a Belgian yeast to create a full flavored beer worth of the Monster Beer Tour Series.

Take off your robe and slip into the night to get one step closer to the Holy Grail of all beers. “Midnight Monk” Belgian-Style Black IPA will have your senses juggling all the complex flavor and aroma this beer have to offer.

The 2014 Monster Beer Tour will include Hopzilla, Wake-n-Bake and new Rye Cubed.
