Sloppy Seconds Never Tasted So Ghood. (Ghoulash Ships)
SweetWater Brewing’s newest and October appropriate beer Ghoulash is now shipping. You see it haunting shelves by the end of the week. First tappings will be tomorrow in the tap room. (I should write really bad press releases.) The SweetWater brewers dumped 14 different hops into this midnight-black ipa. Why? Because 13 hops is just silly.
Your label wordplay: Alone and cold on a frigid fall night, the evil Dr. Dank’s stomach rumbled. It had been days since devouring the last of his trannies and platypuseses. Desperate, he wandered into his kitchen only to find a 3-eyed rat, yellow toenails, and an old bean burrito. Always resourceful, Dr. Dank remembered his great, great, bouffalata, granny goose’s Ghoulash recipe. Try as he might, he couldn’t get it right, so he dumped everything he could find from the fridge and cupboard into one giant boiling brew, resulting in this stew of 2-row, black wheat, munich malt and a 14-hop variety asplifidation of Willamette, Galena, Mt. Hood, Nugget, Perle, Aroma, Bobek, Aurora, Styrian, Golding, Magnum, Columbus, Summit, Millennium, and Crystal.
SWEETWATER BREWING COMPANY SCORES BIG AT GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL
Award-Winning Brewery Out of Atlanta Brings Home A Gold & Bronze Medal At This Weekend’s Event
ATLANTA — SweetWater scored big this weekend at what most brewers call “the Super Bowl of Beer Festivals” at the Great American Beer Festival held in Denver, Colorado. Right out of the gates, the Atlanta-based brewery scored gold as Sch’Wheat took home the first gold medal of the ceremonies for American Style Wheat. Shortly after, a bronze was in their lap in the Rye Ale category for their Crank Tank, a limited edition brew available now until mid-October.
“It’s just incredible! To grab the first gold of the awards is pretty special, and the first gold for Sch’Wheat which was introduced just last summer is unbelievable,” explained SweetWater’s Big Kahuna Freddy Bensch. “These awards represent the craft brewing’s best. Huge kudos go out to our brewing team, who have been busting ass all year long. ”
These two newest medals bring SweetWater’s total over the years to 12 medals including Small Brewery of the Year Award which the brewery won back in 2002. SweetWater remains the only brewery east of the Mississippi River to have ever won that award.
This was the 30th edition of the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). The premier U.S. beer festival and competition was expected to serve 2,400 different beers from an estimated 465 U.S. breweries to the event’s 49,000-plus attendees. The entire event sold out in just one week
