SWEETWATER BREWING COMPANY ANNOUNCES 2012 FLORIDA EXPANSION

The South’s second largest craft brewery rolling into Tampa and Orlando this fall

ATLANTA (August 21, 2012) — SweetWater Brewing Company is excited to announce their expansion into Tampa and Orlando this fall. Known for their West Coast style of hoppy, aggressive, incredibly fresh and unpasteurized ales, SweetWater will be kicking off their arrival with their flagship pale ale — SweetWater 420 — on draft at select bars, pubs and restaurants throughout the area.

The brewery’s iconic rainbow trout tap handles will begin appearing in Tampa late this October and then make their way into Orlando in late November, but no decisions have been made yet on distribution partners in either market. Following its launch of 420 on draft, SweetWater will roll out more tasty brews from its award-winning lineup including IPA and Blue to join 420 in six-packs.

“With the installation of our new 250-barrel brew house and the addition of a slew of fermentation tanks, we will finally be able to make enough beer so that we can sell it a little further south into Florida,” said Freddy Bensch, founder and Big Kahuna of SweetWater Brewing Company. “I’m personally looking forward to getting down there to see if the fishing is as good as I’ve heard!”

More details to be released closer to the brew’s arrival in market. To learn more about SweetWater Brewing Company and its annual lineup, visit www.sweetwaterbrew.com.

SweetWater Motorboat Returns (Not Retired)

Update: Mis-read the PR below… Motorboat is here through October. A play on words that went wrong…

ATLANTA (August 6, 2012) — Motor Boat is cruising on back into SweetWater’s Catch and Release lineup, dropping anchor this August. The slap-you-silly brew is SweetWater’s titillating version of an Extra Special Bitter (ESB), naturally built for speed and comfort…for the old sailor in everyone.

Motor Boat is brewed with Cascade, Sterling and US Golding hops, and dry-hopped with Cascade for a little extra action. Big in body, this unfiltered beer boasts complex malt character and finishes with 42 IBUs and 5.6% ABV.

The brew will hit shelves throughout the Southeast in mid-August. It will be featured in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles and will be flowing on tap at bars and restaurants.

This decorated brew has a proven track record with back-to-back silver medal wins at the Great American Beer Festival. So batten down the hatches, prepare your party barges and drink up while you can, ‘cause Motor Boat will be sailing off into the sunset this October.

Sad to see it go? Don’t fret. SweetWater’s got your back with the debut of its newest addition to the year- round lineup, a rye India Pale Ale (IPA) just around the corner. LowRYEder has been creeping out on select draft taps throughout the summer, but this flame-throwin’ IPA will make its official debut in six-packs on shelves throughout the Southeast early this fall. Stay tuned for more info on the brew and details about how the SweetWater folks are hopped up on hydraulics to make this brew’s launch party larger than life.

SweetWater Takes Home 6 Medals In Open Beer Championship (PR)

ATLANTA – When the folks at SweetWater call their brews an “award-winning lineup” they have the street cred to back it up…especially after their recent victory at the 2012 U.S. Open Beer Championship. The South’s second largest craft brewery competed against some of the world’s finest brewers, entering their beers to compete among more than 1,650 beers represented in 65 various categories.

Top breweries were scored by a point system based on the number of beers that placed first, second and third throughout assorted categories for overall championship titles. All brews were assessed by a judge’s panel composed of experts from Canada, England and the United States.

Award breakdown is as follows:

Gold Medal Beers:

  • SweetWater 15th Anniversary Ale — Old Ale category
  • SweetWater IPA — American IPA category
  • SweetWater Fresh Sticky Nugs — American Brown Ale category

Silver Medal Beers:

  • SweetWater 420 — Golden or Blonde Ale category
  • SweetWater Exodus Porter — Porter category
  • SweetWater Happy Ending — Stout category

“This competition is significant because it accepts entries from breweries around the world and allows national winning homebrewers to compete,” said Dow Scoggins, Director of the U.S. Open Beer Championships.
