Sierra Nevada’s Mills River, North Carolina location has teamed up with the North Carolina Brewers Guild to present the Inaugural Burly Beers and Barleywines Festival.
The new festival features big, bold, malt-forward, strong beers like imperial stouts and barleywines from more than 50 breweries across the United States. Featured breweries include Allagash Brewing Company (ME), Epic Brewing Company (UT), Dogfish Head Brewery (DE), Flying Dog Brewery (MD), and Duck-Rabbit Craft Brewery (NC).
“You can always cut the chill of winter with a big beer, and the options from American craft brewers are endless,” said Brian Grossman, second-generation brewer and co-manager of Sierra Nevada’s Mills River brewery. “Here in North Carolina, winters are a little longer and a little colder than we were used to in California, so we’re breaking out the Barleywines to celebrate that. We’re excited to see what our brewing friends bring for beer fans—what new twists they’ll use to give their brawny releases an extra edge.”

This hop-forward beer features intense citrus and herbal hop flavor balanced by the peppery spice of rye for a dry delicious end to a rafting journey.
Sierra Nevada River Ryed Rye IPA will be available in 12oz cans. The brewery has not yet announced River Ryed. It is indeed similar to Ruthless Rye, in description.
