Sierra Nevada gears up for another “Best Of” boxset release in 2012. Beer Camp is the brewery’s way of reaching out to the collective beer community by inviting lucky individuals to come brew in Chico, California. Some of the best ones find their way into a mixed 12 pack. Imperial Red Ale, aka Beer Camp #65, aka Red-oric seen above is the first of 2012’s potential entries in the pack.
This Imperial Red Ale takes the intense hop profile found in a traditional double IPA and turns up the malt. It has aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach, and melon – balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.
Style: Imperial Red Ale
Availability: 12oz bottles, potential mix pack release

Natalie Cilruzo of Russian River post a few notes today on the impending release of Sierra Nevada/Russian River Brux collaboration arriving in July.
I’m sure many of you have heard about our collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company! This 2 year, 2 brewery, 2 family project is about to hit the streets and hopefully make it to a bottle shop near you! Set for National Release in July (I bet you thought you would never hear me say something like that!), BRUX was brewed in Chico (at Sierra Nevada) and will go through their distribution channels, which will, of course, greatly increase your chances of getting a couple of bottles. BRUX is a “domesticated wild ale”, or an ale fermented with Belgian yeast, finished by a secondary bottle fermentation with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. It’s a little more than 8% alcohol, very dry, earthy, spicy, and tasty.
Through distribution, you’ll see 750 ml bottles. The very little draft available will tap at Sierra Nevada & Russian River’s tap rooms during the month. July 5th Brux taps at Russian River. On July 9th the beer will tap at Sierra Nevada.
Russian River & Sierra Nevada are currently debuting a new collaboration – Brux . Brux (aka Brettanomyces bruxellensis) is so named for the yeast you’ll find in these bottles. The collab is brewed at Sierra Nevada (who doesn’t use much wild yeast at their facility.) Because the yeast will essentially “infect” the bottling line, and potentially the brewhouse, a special procedure was introduced to make this happen. Right before the beer was sealed, a small bit of brett was shot into the bottle. That way, the risk of having this unique yeast getting into other Sierra Nevada beers is reduced.
Brux is shipping through Sierra Nevada’s distribution network. Bottles have already started surfacing. Below, Brian Grossman and Russian River’s Vinnie Ciluruzo introduce this collaboration during Asheville Beer Week.
Style: American Wild Ale
Availability: 750ml bottles, corked & caged.
Arrival: July, 2012
8.3% ABV
