Odell Brewing Celebrates the 2012 Friek Release (PR)

Fort Collins, CO. — On November 10, 2012, Odell Brewing will release this year’s batch of Friek. The Kriek and Framboise hybrid returns for its third year.“Friek is certainly one of our most highly anticipated offerings in our Cellar Series,” said Jason Bowser, tap room manager for Odell Brewing. “Both our guests and our co-workers look forward to this beer, especially during the holiday season.”

An adaptation of a Lambic style ale, Friek is aged in oak barrels with cherries grown on Colorado’s western slope. It is then blended with Colorado raspberries. The result marries a subtle cherry tartness with a hint of sweet raspberry and a crisp dry finish. The slightly sour profile is derived from a combination of wild yeasts, lactobacillus, and pediococcus and will increase over time. Odell Brewing will celebrate the return of Friek with a tap room celebration on Saturday, November 10th.

Guests can enjoy samples of the beer, tasty local fare, and live music by Gypsy Fit from 4 — 6 p.m. Friek will be available in 750 ml cork and cage finished bottles throughout the brewery’s ten state distribution footprint.

Odell Brewing releases Woodcut No. 6 featuring Mosaic Hops (PR)

Fort Collins, CO. — On October 6, 2012 Odell Brewing will release its sixth Woodcut brew, an oak aged American ale featuring Mosaic hops. Woodcut No. 6 is the first dry hopped offering in the series, and is the result of over a year of collaboration between the Mosaic hop farmers and Odell Brewing.

“We shared some Woodcut No. 3 and Woodcut No. 4 with Jason Perrault, a 4th generation Yakima Valley hop farmer, and he loved it,” said Brendan McGivney, head of production at Odell Brewing. “He and Brad Carpenter (his family began growing hops in the valley in 1868) then shared some experimental hops with us, and we fell in love with them.

Odell Brewing began brewing with the experimental hops, known only as “HBC 369” at that time. The hops offered a profoundly unique flavor and aroma, so the brewers invited the pair to come to the brewery to brew Woodcut No. 6 with them, at which point they had landed on the name “Mosaic.”

The brewers included both Mosaic and another yet-to-be-named experimental hop variety in the kettle and Hopback. The beer was dry hopped with 100% Mosaic hops, and transferred to virgin American oak barrels where it aged for several months. The final blend marries the unique and complex tropical fruit sweetness of the Mosaic hop with the vanilla and toasted oak from the new barrels.

Odell Brewing will celebrate the release of Woodcut No. 6 on October 6th in the Tap Room with live music and local food. The brewery will also pour the beer at The Great American Beer Festival®October 11th — 13th.

Odell Mountain Standard Double Black IPA Returns (PR)

FORT COLLINS, CO. — On September 22, 2012, fall officially returns as does Odell Brewing Company’s Mountain Standard. The brew, a double black IPA, was released in a four-pack for the first time last year.

Featuring hops grown on Colorado’s western slope, the brew blends a rich, dark malt character with a crisp and bright hop aroma and flavor. The bold combination pairs well with brined or roasted meats, sharp aged cheddars, or bittersweet chocolate.

Mountain Standard was a featured “Craft Beer of the Day” on Forbes.com. “For a brew that clocks in at 9.5% ABV, Mountain Standard Double Black India Pale Ale is remarkably tasty,” said Forbes contributor, Erik Kain. “It manages to be very strong and very delicious all at once, with a nice round flavor that lingers gently, leaving that perfect balance of bitter and sweet in your mouth long after you’ve drained your glass.”

The brewery will celebrate the return of Mountain Standard in the Tap Room on September 22nd, during the Fall Equinox. Guests can try the beer, and enjoy local food truck fare as well as live music by The Constant Tourists from 4 — 6 p.m.

Mountain Standard is available from September — January within the brewery’s ten state distribution footprint.

Odell’s The Meddler: 18 Months In The Making

Odell Brewing Co resurrects an old style from Belgium with The Meddler.  This meddler is an oud bruin aka “old brown” aka Flanders Brown ale. The style is so named due to the lengthy process it takes to create the beer.  Flanders brown ales can take up to a year to produce (this one took 18 months), thanks to a long fermentation process in the tanks and the bottle, allowing yeast and bacteria to develop the beer’s flavor. The final result can be tart, fruity, malty, and slightly complex. This style of beer can give your palate a little sweet and sour with each sip.

A resurrected style from the Flemish region of Belgium, The Meddler wad bruin is a crafty concoction, comprised of several generations of brown ales, barrel aged and blended. Wild yeast and Lactobacillus meddle with the brew for over 18 months, creating complexity and depth of flavor. Hints of malty sweet chocolate and vanilla toy with a hauntingly sour finish. Intricate yet balanced, The Meddler will leave you craving more of the mysterious brew.
