Colorado Super Collab Planned For American Craft Beer Week
The 2nd Colorado mega collaboration is in the works once again for American Craft Beer Week 2012. Nine Fort Collins brewers will come together in April to brew up a new Colorado focused brew. Last year, the 9 breweries created “Collusion Ale.“
Odell Brewing announced that its Double Pilsner is making a return. Double Pilsner is a Americanized version of the traditional Bohemian Pilsner. This brew is made with lots of German Pilsen Malt and Noble Hops increasing the ABV to 8.1%.
Double Pilsner will replace Mountain Standard for the spring/summer and will be available in 4-packs from March 31st through September. Double Pilsner will be released on March 31st at the brewery’s tap room and soon after in all ten states Odell is distributed to.
Doug Odell’s admiration for the British brewing culture has led him across the pond – a lot. In 2008, Doug landed at Thornbridge Brewery and in the company of kindred brewing spirits. This visit led to a collaboration brew at Thorniridge in 2010. Fast forward to 2012 to find the two breweries at it again, this time at OdeIl Brewing. Pond Hopper Double Extra Pale Ale is the love child of this international brewmance. Brewed with English malts and American hops, Pond Hopper brings together the best ingredients each country has to offer, balancing a subtle sweet malt character with hosts of mango and peach hop flavor. It pours a rich golden color with citrus and ripe melon essence in the nose. No matter which side of the pond you’re on, here’s to good beer and good friends. Cheers.
On March 24, Odell Brewing will release Shenanigans Oak Aged Crimson Ale. Shenanigans is a red ale aged in oak barrels for a touch of Brettanomyces character.
There once was a mischievous brew, with a beautiful crimson like hue. We had one and had one again, and we called it Shenanigans. Then we brewed a batch up just for you.
Flavor (Per Odell) Brett character offers a hint of tartness to complement the rich malts. Toasted oak and vanilla fill the nose, and a touch of dried cherry plays with the light citrus hop flavor.
How did Odell do it? “When we develop a new beer, we experiment with a variety of recipes and test batches on our five barrel Pilot Brewing system,” said pilot & barrel aged beer manager, Brent Cordle. “Sometimes, these recipes take on a life of their own becoming a new project. Shenanigans was one such brew, and we all agreed it needed to be shared.
Style:Red Ale (Barrel Aged) Availability: 750 ml bottles, corked & caged. Arrival: 3/24/12
Odell Footprint Ale Celebrates Their 10 States, Feb 11th
Odell Brewing will be releasing Footprint RegionAle in 2/11/12. The beer celebrates the 10 states in their distribution network, with ingredients from each of the states. The press release:
Fort Collins, CO. — On February 11, 2012, Odell Brewing will release its first single serve brew of the New Year. A uniquely collaborative project, Footprint RegionAle pays tribute to the brewery’s regional distribution.
This artful ale is a nod to the ten states that make up what Odell Brewing calls its “distribution footprint.” The brewery sourced select ingredients from each of these ten states and crafted a myriad of small batch brews that were then blended into one larger brew. Guest brewers comprised of distributor partners, retailers, co-workers and friends from each state were invited to Odell Brewing to help with the brews.
“I had the pleasure of making the trip to Odell Brewing Co to brew the Minnesota component of Footprint; we had the challenge of brewing with sticky Minnesota grown wild rice,” said Mike Illig, Craft Beer manager for C&L Distributing in St. Cloud, MN. “The whole concept of the brew is a great idea, and I am glad to be a part of such an interesting collaboration.”
Footprint includes hops and barley from Colorado and Idaho, wheat from Kansas and Wyoming, Arizona prickly pear, Minnesota wild rice, Nebraska corn, New Mexico green chilies, South Dakota honey, and oak barrels from Missouri. The final blend boasts a rich golden hue and an oaky stone-fruit nose, and a delicate sweetness from the wheat and honey that is balanced by a subtle spicy dry finish.
Odell Brewing will celebrate the release of Footprint on Saturday February 11th in the brewery’s Tap Room from 4-6pm. The event will feature samples of the beer, local food, and live music by The Constant Tourist. Footprint RegionAle is available in 750mL cork and cage finished bottles throughout the brewery’s ten state distribution.
