New Belgium Fears Wildfire Taste In Local Water [Video]

New Belgium Brewing is facing a new issue in the brewing process. Water contamination. Runoff from the Colorado wildfires has seeped into the Poudre River that the Fort Collins based brewery uses. In the meantime, New Belgium has been using water from Larimer County.

The brewery was recently informed that they might have to go back to using the tainted river water. Obviously, that water would be unusable for brewing. New Belgium is currently working on a solution. There’s a rauch beer joke in this story somewhere. [Thanks @RhizomePro]

Brewery Vivant & New Belgium Collaborate on “Bretta”

Brewery Vivant Bretta Ale

New Belgium enters the state of Michigan on August 27, 2012. To celebrate the occasion, NB has worked up a collaboration with Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids. Escoffier Bretta Ale is a celebration of food & beer.

When you put two Lion Fish in a bowl, they fight. When you put to brewers at the same table, the drink beer and become friends. This is how the collaboration came together between our two breweries. With our love of Belgian inspired beer, great food, and running our companies in a sustainable manner, we had a lot to talk about. Next thing you know, we were making plans to brew a beer together.

New Belgium Enters Michigan Aug 27 (PR)

Ft. Collins, CO, August 15, 2012 — After months of anticipation, select beers from New Belgium Brewing will be available in Michigan beginning August 27. New Belgium will initially roll out 22-ounce bottles of Fat Tire, Ranger IPA, Trippel, Shift and Red Hoptober, as well as Lips of Faith offerings Super IPA (with Alpine Brewing) and Biere de Mars; draft will follow in October. With the addition of Michigan, the Fort Collins-based brewery and maker of Fat Tire Amber Ale will be in 29 states and the District of Columbia.

To coincide with entering the Great Lakes State, New Belgium Brewing and Michigan-based Brewery Vivant are launching the first of two collaborative beers. The first, called “Escoffier”, is being brewed in Grand Rapids and will be distributed through Brewery Vivant’s network. The beer is named after the French master chef of the same name, and crafted to go hand in hand with the food-beer experience. It’s deep amber in color and uses one of Brewery Vivant’s house Belgian yeast strains, as well as wild yeast from New Belgium called Brettanomyces Bruxellensis.

A release party is scheduled at Brewery Vivant on August 27, followed by a Michigan release of draft and signature 16-ounce cans. The beer will also be available in Chicago when Vivant begins distribution there in October.

A second beer will be brewed in Fort Collins and released through New Belgium Brewing’s national network. It will be part of the Lips of Faith series, available in 22-ounce bombers and draft in November.

“Michigan has already been a great partner with a broad network of breweries, distributors and beer lovers,” said Bryan Simpson, New Belgium’s spokesman. “Working with Brewery Vivant has been a great way to meet and work with local brewers while making something new and unique for both breweries.”

New Belgium is working with 22 Michigan distributors to distribute its beer.

New Belgium & G. Love’s Peach Porch Drops This Month

New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Series grows in August.  Peach Porch Lounger, a musical collaboration between NB and Philadelphia’s G. Love is ready to ship. G-Love, better known as Garrett Dutton, has been home brewing since high school.  Mr. Love is also a big New Belgium fan, reportedly riding a Fat Tire bike to the beach.  The name?  Based off of G. Love’s favorite song — Front Porch Lounger.  The bottle mimics the cover of that album — The Hustle.

Peach Porch Lounger is the lovechild Saison of musician G. Love and New Belgium. The glowing orange beer is a groovy mix of peaches, hominy grits, molasses and lemon peel with pale and biscuit malts. Brettanomyces yeast brings a bold, sweet nose and the beer ends with a dry finish. ABV is 9.4%.

New Belgium Releases Double Collaborations This Month (PR)

(Fort Collins, CO) — New Belgium Brewing’s Lips of Faith Series (http://www.newbelgium.com/beer.aspx) has proven to be the perfect opportunity for partnerships with other breweries — and musicians, too. The third round of Lips of Faith beers in 2012 includes two collaborative efforts; Super India Pale Ale was created in tandem with Alpine Beer Company and Peach Porch Lounger is the result of G. Love’s and New Belgium’s mutual love for beer and music.

New Belgium and Southern California’s Alpine Beer Company came together for the love of IPAs to make Super India Pale Ale. Amarillo, Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial hops bring bitterness to the forefront, balanced with Pale, C-80 and Carapils malts. The tropical and citrus tones of the American hops dominate the flavor of the copper-colored beer. ABV is 9% and there are 70 IBUs.

“The ability to share passions — with brewers, musicians or anyone else — is another reason to love the creative nature of Belgian beer,” said New Belgium brewer Grady Hull. “As longtime fans of G. Love, working together was clearly a wonderful opportunity; and anyone who is unfamiliar with Alpine Beer Company is in for a treat.”

Super India Pale Ale and Peach Porch Lounger will be available this August in select markets while supplies last. Pricing varies by market.

The Lips of Faith series offers limited edition selections that showcase New Belgium’s more esoteric and palate-elevating creations. They are only available in certain locations and for a short period of time. New Belgium’s Clips of Faith, a traveling beer and film tour, also gives people across the country a chance to sample beer from the Lips of Faith portfolio.
