Fun Facts About Left Hand Brewing As They Turn 20

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont, CO) turns 20 years old on September 21st.  The brewery will celebrate 20 years of craft brewing with a party in Longmont. How well do you know Left Hand? Here are a few facts about one of America’s Top 50 Craft Brewers.

–  Left Hand Brewing Company is named after local Arapahoe Chief Niwot, who wintered with his tribe in the Boulder Valley.

–  Prior to becoming Left Hand, the property at 1265 Boston Avenue belonged to the Green Sausage Factory. RIP piggies.

–  Eric Wallace & Dick Doore are Air Force Academy Grads.

–  Sawtooth Ale, Left Hand’s original flagship is still going strong as one of the brewery’s most popular beers, second only to Milk Stout.

–  The Left Hand logo was developed in part on a failed effort to shrink the original Navajo design onto a bottle cap. The switch was made to a more legible, basic hand trace and the rest is history.

– Milk Stout Nitro is the first nitrogenated American craft beer to be successfully bottled without a widget!

– Cinzia Wallace has been active behind the bar since day one! Cinzia has served as Tasting Room manager since 2006.

– Left Hand has 3 beers named after local geographic landmarks: Sawtooth, Twin Sisters, and St. Vrain.

– In Left Hand’s first year, they took home GABF medals for Sawtooth Ale, Black Jack Porter, and Juju Ginger! All three styles are still available today.

Happy Birthday Left Hand. Here’s to 20 more tasty years.

After 4 Years, Left Hand St. Vrain Returns

Left Hand’s (Longmont, CO) Belgian tripel is back after 4 years. 2009 was the last time you could but St. Vrain- named for the river the flows near the brewery in Colorado. This tripel is light bodied, fruity, and of course, chock full of alcohol.  The artwork (seen above) has been updated for 2013’s release.

The beer pours a brilliant gold with aromas of tropical fruit, spicy pepper, and bubble gum. Bottle conditioned for a truly monastic feel, St. Vrain bubbles effervescently with a fluffy white head.  First sips open with light malt and a honey-like sweetness tempered by mint and peppery flavors, transitioning to herbal hoppy notes and a slightly nutty finish redolent of chestnuts. The finish is warming and dry, with a slight lingering bitterness.

Style: Belgian-style Tripel
Availability: 22oz bottles, Draft. All 27 Left Hand ship states

 9.3% ABV
