Heavy Seas (Baltimore, MD) kicked off 2013’s new Mutiny Fleet with Siren Noire, a bourbon barrel edition of the chocolate imperial stout. The next Uncharted Waters release is ready and on the way – “oaked” Big DIPA. An imperial IPA aged on oak spirals (seen above next to the bottle). Each release in 2013 will have some form of wood treatment.

One of the biggest changes for Heavy Seas Beer (Baltimore, MD) this year is the addition of a canning line. Folks, your year just got boozier. Above is the official can lineup for this year. As you can see – Loose CANnon is first, followed my Davy Jone Lager, and Aarghtoberfest! late Summer/Fall.
Couple of things to note: Davy Jones Lager has been slightly reformulated to clock in around 6% ABV. A little easier to drink in the heat. All of the above ship in 12 packs. No retail price yet.

Heavy Seas’s new Uncharted Waters lineup will be an exciting addition to 2013. Bourbon Aged Siren Noire will kick off the series in January. Not long after, expect a the Big DIPA’s return, as an oak aged version of it’s former self.
The English used to ship their biggest pale ales to India in oak barrels. Big DIPA harkens to that time, when beer had a distinctive oak character and a full herbal and earthy hop flavor. To round out the obscene among of hops and strong malt backbone in this beer, we add oak spirals to the tanks, allowing the beer to mellow as if on it’s own voyage.

Heavy Seas Pale Ale (now Powder Monkey), like all of our beers, is well balanced: distinct bitterness and a slight malt sweetness characterize the taste.
