A Dogfish Head 60 Minute Beer Infused Hop Pickle [Video]

Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione was eating pickles from Brooklyn Brine while drinking his 60 Minute IPA one day. The merging of the two flavors gave him an idea.  The idea of a beer infused pickle collaboration.  After round of beer sampling and hop research, Brooklyn Brine decided on Cascade hop oil.  (Oils extracted from the hops leaves.) The pickle company is some pretty cool things with pickles, including barrel fermented pickles made in whiskey barrels.

Dogfish Head Festina Peche & Founder’s Cerise Return

Two fruity offerings have returned.  Dogfish Head Festina Peche, and Founder’s Cerise.

Festine Peche is berliner weisse, brewed with peaches.  4.5% ABV

Festina Peche, since the natural peach sugars are eaten by the yeast, the fruit complexity is woven into both the aroma and the taste of the beer so there is no need to doctor it with woodruff or raspberry syrup. Just open and enjoy!

Founder’s Cerise fruit/vegetable beer chock full of cherries.  53 lbs in fact.  Harvested from Benton Harbor, Coloma, Grand Rapids and Traverse City.  The cherries are added at 5 different stages of fermentation in order to achieve a perfect balance of sour cherry and malt palette.  Cerise has a big malt bill to compliment the cherries, caramel being notable.  Cerise has a sweet, crisp mouthfeel. 6.5% ABV

Both are available in 12oz bottles, and draft.  Early summer seasonals…

URKontinent is brewed in the style of a Belgian Dubbel. It begins with Pilsner, Munich and Chocolate Malts and Belgian Dark Candi syrup. Then we add unique ingredients from around the world. Wattleseed from Australia imparts a chocolate, coffee, and hazelnut taste to the beer. Toasted Amaranth from South America gives it an earthy, grainy flavor and a little additional roast flavor. Green Rooibos from Africa contributes a floral aroma and slight astringency. Myrica Gale from Europe supplements the bitterness from minimal hopping. Hive Plex Honey from California adds a subtle sweetness while maintaining the dry finish. The careful combination of all these ingredients creates a complex dark Belgian style ale with wonderful coffee and chocolate covered cherry flavors.
