Boulevard Puts Chocolate On Haitus

Boulevard has placed Chocolate Ale on hiatus in 2013.  They announced today that the beer isn’t permanently retired, just on hold for a while.

It’s no secret that Boulevard faced challenges during the two previous releases of the popular seasonal beer, not least of which was satisfying surprisingly strong consumer demand. The company is actively working on several initiatives to help overcome these challenges, for Chocolate Ale as well as its other Smokestack Series seasonal and limited release offerings.

In the meantime, look forward to 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer and Reverb Imperial Pilsner this summer.

Boulevard Heads To Washington

Boulevard Brewing is officially heads to Washington.   Quick little press release about the expansion.

May 31, 2012 — Kansas City — Over the last few years, Boulevard Brewing Company has grown its selling territory, sharing the Midwest’s favorite craft beers with consumers in coastal cities including Seattle, Portland and Boston. Now, the Kansas City brewer is signing distributors in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland and bringing its ales and lagers to their markets in the coming weeks.

“We’ve been exploring these markets for a while,” said Bob Sullivan, Boulevard’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The number of Midwest transplants residing in our nation’s capital made the market appealing to us. Add in our sponsorship of the Brewer Association’s SAVOR event, [an American craft beer and food experience taking place in DC on June 8th and 9th] launching now is perfect timing.”
Boulevard will offer its flagship Unfiltered Wheat Beer and highly acclaimed Smokestack Series line of artisanal beers beginning June 4, immediately after the SAVOR event in D.C. The company has appointed Premium Distributors in D.C., northern Virginia, and part of Maryland, and Bond Distributing in greater Baltimore. Other communities in Virginia and Maryland will be added throughout the summer.
To oversee its sales on the east coast, Boulevard has appointed Rob Goodyear to the position of Regional Sales Manager, based out of Boston. Goodyear, a 13-year veteran of the beer industry, began his career as a sales rep with Burke Distributing in Boston, and most recently served as Chain Account Executive for MillerCoors.

Boulevard & Pretty Things Create Collab #3 “Stingo”

Boulevard/Pretty Things Collaboration #3Remember back in April when Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project went on a road trip?  They stopped in Kansas City, Missouri to brew with Boulevard.  The group created the 3rd installment of Boulevard’s Smokestack Collaboration Series.   Pretty Things is a bit like Mikkeller, Evil Twin, & Stillwater as they don’t have a physical brewery.  Their gypsy brewers, that create tasty is various places around the U.S.  The above is a prime example.

So what is it?

They created an English style ale called “Stingo.”  Stingo is a strong ale originating the northern England.  It’s a pretty old style too.  You’ll find literature references to it before 1700.  They are oak aged (usually more than a year) before arriving in your glass.  Stingo is said to “sting” the palate, thus the name was born.

Boulevard brewmaster, Steven Pauwels joins  Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things for this collab.  Expect woody flavors mixed with fruit and complex malts.

Style: English Style Strong Ale
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Corked & Caged.  Draft
Arrival: TBA

8.5% ABV
