eBay: 2012 Dark Lord $60, Barrel Aged $250+

It’s the Monday after 3 Floyds Dark Lord Day 2012.  On Saturday the Indiana brewery released the highly rated Russian imperial stout.  In a matter of hours, bottles of both the regular Dark Lord and its barrel aged variants were found on EBay.  (I’m pretty sure I saw one post pop up while someone was still AT the Dark Lord Day event.)

So how much will a bottle cost you now?  Currently, the average cost of a regular Dark Lord is in the neighborhood of $60 dollars.  Up from $15 at the event.  (300%+ increase.)  The price of barrel aged editions of Dark Lord are running even higher.  If the bottle numbers are any indication, there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000 or more bottles produced across 4 different barrel treated editions.
If you got the chance to purchase a bottle of the BA Dark Lord, it was $50 dollars.  Average cost per bottle is near $250 on the auction site (in some cases higher).  That’s a 500% market up over “retail” price.  But hey, free shipping!

A Line Forms In Indiana. Dark Lord Day + Variants

Somewhere in Indiana (ok, Munster for those of you with a map) there is a line.  Today is 3 Floyd’s Brewing “Dark Lord Day.” Beer geeks/lovers/enthusiasts/psychos from all over vie for a bottle(s) of Dark Lord Imperial Stout, ranking among the best beers on planet earth.

In addition to grabbing a bottle of Dark Lord, the brewery has some rare variants available today.  Those lucky enough to attend the event today got a “Golden Ticket.” Each ticket has a scratch off portion, much like a lottery ticket.  If you win, you get a chance to purchase a barrel aged Dark Lord variant.  The variants are:

Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Lord

Vanilla Bean Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Lord

Cognac Barrel Aged Dark Lord

Cognac Barrel Aged Dark Lord de Muerte  (Aged w/ ancho and guajillo peppers)

Each bottle is waxed dipped, screen printed, and a whopping $50 dollars a bottle.

3 Floyds Dark Lord Day tickets will go on sale on St. Paddy’s Day  (3/17/12) at 12 noon CT.   $15 a ticket. 2 tickets per person max.

We are continuing the three different group sales like last year because they worked so well for getting people through the lines quickly and efficiently.  Group A 10 am to noon Group B 1 pm to 3 pm Group C 5 pm to 7 pm.

Ed Note:  Good luck to those attempting to get tickets.  Last year, Music Today’s website crashed hard.  I don’t understand how anyone got tickets to the event after seeing the function of the website.

This beer is only going to be available at the Floyds facility in Indiana, but it is certainly worth a short road trip. And before you ask, yes, actual oysters are involved in the brewing process and it’s not as gross as I assumed it would be when I heard that.

Three Floyds Amendment Out Of Committee

A big step for beer law in Indiana, and for Three Floyds Brewing.  House Bill 1054 is out of committee.

House Bill 1054 Amendment #3 a.k.a. the Three Floyds Amendment (the second one bearing our name), unanimously passed out of committee yesterday.  If the bill is adopted by the House and Senate, it will raise the ceiling of how much beer a brewery in Indiana can produce and sell in state to 30,000 bbls.  Good news for us and our Craft brewing compatriots.

Dark Lord Day 2012 Details

It’s that time of year again, Dark Lord Day 2012.  This year’s big day will be held on April 28th. Some rules apply: tickets are required for entry, no pets, no coolers, no furniture, no tents, no grills, parking is not provided, no RV’s, and cash only.  That said, 3 Floyds did say that if you want to bring a few beers to sample or trade, that will be acceptable within reason.  Munster Police Department will be on hand to keep the peace.

Initial response to these restrictions does not seem to be good following the Anniversary party debacle.  Does no furniture mean no sitting while waiting to get in?  How is one supposed to keep beers to sample or trade cold with no cooler?

No word yet on when tickets will go on sale, beer variations, or bottle allotments.  Check out the initial reactions to the rule changes on the Dark Lord website.  [Dark Lord Day]
