Redhook Ben Harris Tribute Launching Nationally

Tragedy struck Redhook Brewery earlier this year when a keg exploded killing worker Ben Harris. A memorial beer has been brewed for Ben, to help benefit the family he left behind. On Friday July 20th, the first kegs the tribute beer tap at Redhook, with all proceeds donated to the Ben Harris Fund. To best honor Ben, the brewery chose a cream ale

The beer will hit draft nationally over the rest of the summer, with bottles coming to the New England markets of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts, including his home state of Pennsylvania.

About the beer:

Style: Cream Ale
Hops: Sterling, Saaz, Hallertau
Malts: Two Row Barley, Carapils
Adjuncts: Corn

4.7% ABV, 19 IBUs

“Ben Harris was an incredible man. He was a longtime member of the Redhook family, a friend to all of us and a beer lover through and through,” said Alex Kopf, Redhook senior brewer.

Jester King On Their Beer Outside Of Texas

Jester King Craft Brewery (Austin, Texas) is really making a name for themselves. Everyone I know that steps foot in the state starts looking for it. Recently, some Jester King has been sited outside of the state. (In a semi-official capacity.) That caused rumors to circulate around Jester entering those states. Here’s the bottom line on recent appearances, from the source:

… this shipment like those that preceded it, does not mark our permanent entry into any out of state markets, or any kind of promise as to the ongoing availability of our beers anywhere outside of Texas. It means simply that we had a little extra beer that we were able to share, and did what we could to get it to some folks outside our region, who we thought might enjoy it. Moving forward, when we have more beer that we can spare, we will very likely do much the same thing, but at this point, we really can’t say when or how often that’s likely to be.

Fingers crossed. Who knows where you might see them next. If only for a minute. [JesterKing]

Stone Finds An Infection Issue In Rare Beer

Even well established breweries have some infection issues sometimes. Stone Brewing Co discovered yesterday that bottles of their 2010 Russian Imperial Russian Stout aged in bourbon barrels has some infection issues. The stout has spent two years resting in bourbon barrels before making it’s way into the world.   Randy Clemens, Media & Communications for Stone mentioned this on Beer Advocate:

Yeah, this is a major bummer to hear. We’re looking into the half-fills and the reports of infected bottles as we speak, and we’ll have much better information (as well as a solution to make it right!) after our meeting tomorrow. If you can’t wait that long, you’re welcome to bring your bottle(s) back–filled, empty, or anywhere in between–for a full refund, no questions asked. More details to come; thanks all for your patience, understanding, loyalty, and hopefully forgiveness.

This special edition is part of Stone’s Quingenti Millilitre series. I guess there are some sad beer geeks out there right now.
