Dogfish Head, A 3 Day Fest, and 11,000 Pints

Imagine pouring 11,000 pints of beer. Dogfish Head did that. At the recent Firefly Festival at Dover International Speedway in Delaware, Dogfish Head was there to party. (and pour).  The brewery  created a special English-style pale ale named for the inaugural festival – Firefly Ale.

Firefly is an English-style Pale Ale brewed with Marris Otter barley and English heritage hops (because the Sex Pistols invented punk rock). To add a fruity and citrusy aroma, there’s a late addition of American Calypso hops (because the Ramones invented punk rock).

Firefly, along with other beers that DFH was selling did well. By 10:30 pm on the first day – the brewery at the fest ran out of beer. A whopping 11,000 pints were sold according to DelMarVa Now. Impressive.  Firefly is a one-off brewed just for the 3 day festival.

Brooklyn’s Brewing’s Cat “Monster” Passes Away

Ever heard of Brooklyn Monster? Besides the beer, Monster is actually a cat – and a famous one at that.  Monster lived at the brewery on 79 North 11th Street for 13 years.  He’s been on Animal Planet, Time Out New York, and more.  Sadly, Brooklyn Brewery announced today that Monster has past away  of kidney failure at age 13.

Monster quickly became one of the most photographed objects in The Brewery, and aside from possibly Brewmaster Oliver has posed with more Brooklyn fans than any other member of the team.
We encourage you to share your memories and pictures of Monster with us. It’s hard to imagine 79 North 11th Street without him.

Other famous beer animals include Olive aka – Smuttynose Brewing’s “Old Brown Dog” who died peacefully in 2007.
